Default Image Transparencies.....?

Hi guys,

I'm in the middle of making a cursor to go with my windows theme, but I'm having trouble with making the background transparent. So the cursor's there, but there is a white square around it, do you know of any way to get rid of it? I heard of something about 'alpha channels' or something but I can't get any other information other than what they are, I need to know how to actually use them lol!

I'm using CursorXP trial and I only have MSPaint, ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 and GIMP 2 as graphics software (can't afford PhotoShop!)

Will be grateful for any help....

Stu

Of the software you mentioned, you should edit the image in The GIMP. As far as I know, of the three, that's the only one capable of adding/editing alpha in an image. To add an alpha channel, in the layers window, right click the base layer, go to layers, then add alpha channel to add alpha to the image. Then just select all the pixels you don't want and delete them. It should remove the pixels and leave the area being completely translucent.

Also, be sure to save the image in a format that supports alpha like PNG.
