Default Images in signatures?

I can't think what other forum this would fit in, so I'm posting this here. If I were to put a link in my sig from a website, or photobucket what should I cap the dimensions of the image at? I have something I wanted to use that's 600x515, that seems a little large. If that is, I could shrink it down just a little bit, only if it's necessary. If I experiment with my sig it won't effect my old post, will it?

It will effect all yours posts on this forum if you change your signature, yes.

Plus this is the wrong thread to ask this question, moving it to the Graphics portion.

That's odd... My image appears transparent in Firefox, but in Internet Explorer it shows the white background. Why is that? Does Internet Explorer not support transparent images?

No. Not even Internet Explorer 7 supports it.

Oh, thank you, finally a reply. I can't belive that, Internet Explorer stinks. I'm a Firefox user so I don't care, but I care about the people using Internet Explorer, so I just matched my sig with the bg. It still looks an odd color in IE though.

use a jpeg file with the forum colors substituting the transparency.
