Chef Nguyen returns with Club Soda -4th Season-

Hey everybody. I'm a Club DJ and Radio DJ from Kansas. Ever since my show got canceled from the indie radio station, I thought my plans for the 4th season of Club Soda were ruined. I was wrong; I decided to return with this season through the internet (ghetto podcast). Of course, I had to incorporate some Bemani into this show like I've done with my previous seasons.

Sense 2007 has been my opening theme since the 2nd season and Luv To Feel Your Body has been my closing theme since the 3rd season.

Inspired by "beatmaniaIIDX16: Empress + Premium Best" for Playstation 2, which just came out not too long ago, I figured I should make an episode that follows a similar form. What do I mean?

This episode is split into two parts:
4-5A: containing 30 minutes of the new songs collection.
4-5B: containing 60 minutes of revived songs from the past releases for this season.

Initially I was going to make a separate episode 4-6 dedicated to Club Soda Classics, but because midterms are around this time of the Fall semester, why not throw in a review of the best songs that have been played so far. Hey Chef, I listened to 4-4. I'm a DJ in Atlanta, and I must say, I'm not really impressed with your mixing. It's really just crossfading. You should try to work on actually blending your tracks together. It'd make the mixes more interesting to listen to and the new mixing would add more personality to your mixes themselves. That way, no one can duplicate what you're doing. Anyone can press play and move the crossfader over to the other side, but it takes a true DJ to mix and EQ the music together.

Also, whenever you do your voice overs, you got this HORRIBLE white noise/grain in the background. Maybe get a better quality mic?

Hello usamablackbelt! Thank you for your input. You are actually right about the mixing for that particular episode. It isn't the best with innovative mixing. The point of some of these episodes is to introduce certain songs out there (whether if they are dance club or mainstream club). I would classify those transitions has forgivable transitions, which aren't the best, but people can get over them quickly and move on to the next track displayed. The reason why I decided to make some of the episodes this way is to keep it simple and to the point. Also, some of the tracks I have are just radio edits, so I can't do much with them unless I loop the brief intro.

The best thing to do to fulfill your criteria in "blending" the tracks is to possess the full extended (12inch) versions. That way there would be enough time for intro as well as outro to create a transition from a track to another. For example: Observe the transition from "Sexy Chick" to "Day 'N' Nite (Crookers Remix)" from Episode 4-7.

In my opinion, the best episodes to observe would be the ones released later (4-5 and up). 4-4 isn't my best example of mixing, but this is how I would do it on the radio for swift simplicity. Also, this is not the best example to project my title has one of 3 best DJ in Lawrence 2008. lol.

As for the voice quality, I have a crappy microphone at home. I just don't have enough money to obtain a high quality mic (due to college tuition and such). It's just something we have to put up with, however once I start racking in money in the future from additional club gigs, then I will absolutely consider a new microphone.

Another thing to agree on is to create something that no one else can replicate. From my input, if it's something that is a simple (or "forgivable" as mentioned above), then any incompetent DJ wannabe can do the same thing as what I am doing with the simple transitions. Creating an original (or even a signature) flow from song to song would give it some sort of twist of my own.

Again I will take your criticism with great value and try to place them in my next episode, which is coming out this weekend. It's great to hear from another DJ from elsewhere who can be very much constructive. Thanks! I appreciate it!

Within this episode, you will find a lot of songs played in previous seasons. Why bring them back? For the past 2 weeks, I've been listening to a few of my episodes from seasons 1 and 2 and I thought, "Why not revive them for this season?" This is where I declare them as "Club Soda Classics" because, not only were they frequently requested at the Granada (when I performed in Fall 2008), but they helped maintain a calm and stable pace within the crowd. It wasn't about getting wild; instead it was to set the environment for those who wanted to socialize. This is what makes this episode so special from the previous ones. One of my friends have heard this mix a few times and he said that this would be great music to workout to. I hope many of you see it this way as well.

Due to a brief mishap towards the end of this episode, I have revised it and added another song as a bonus!

In this episode, I decided to introduce some more tracks from previous seasons of Club Soda because not everyone has heard Club Soda on the radio. I indicated the revivals in the list below. Also, I brought in some new songs to share with you, which I recently heard in a few clubs. One of my favorite tracks is placed at the beginning of this episode, and it's called "Touch Me" by Tom Novy and Jerry Ropero f./ Abigail Bailey. It is often an indicator to me that whenever certain vocals or elements within a song gives me the "chills", that lets me know that this is a song that cannot be forgotten. That is why I have included it in this episode. In fact, most of the songs I've included have been because of the "chills" I received from listening to these songs.
