This is the track i'm going to submit to the BroadJam DDR 2007 contest.
I know I previously had a track titled "Ninja Boy" but i'm going to name this track the same thing.
It's very near completion, a few tweaks here and there. Oh, and an Intro too.
Feedback is definitely appreciated! Ninja Boy (2007)
Thanks for listening! | |

I love the atmosphere you've given to it, with the subtle sound effects and such. Great percussion, great breakdown, great everything. :P
I think you stand a solid chance.
(You're getting good comments on IRC, as well. )

I hope Konami knows that the breakdown to the slow part is suppose to be a tempo change haha ^_^''
Is the Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute) too loud? Is it just me and my speakers?

Seriously, though, awesome work. The only part I didn't really care for was the end, where it just sort of went "yep, I'm done." And hit a final note. Some kind of minor breakdown would have been nice.
But otherwise... wow. Damn good track. This is a DDR submission to be proud of.

Thanks for the reply! | |

It might just be personal preference, but I feel the track might need a bit more aggressive synth work. Or maybe just amp up what you have there already. I think the synth (bass?) panned to the right comes across a bit strong and could use a meaner sounding WHOOM synth in its place while that gets placed to the back.
Also, the crash on every kick in the latter half of the song might be a bit much. Maybe lower the volume a bit?
The sudden end can also be fixed with a snare roll.
Beyond that ... I look forward to playing it on the next CS release. Hopefully a PS2 one.

I can see the cymbals being a bit overwhelming too >,<'''
I might have a hard time with an aggressive synth though, i'm not quite sure if my keyboard has good ones.
Thanks everyone! Your feedback is helping a TREMENDOUS amount!

Total Tokens: 6,812.68 Donate Tokens | It's exactly what the game needs. I'm all for the more aggressive feel in the songs lately. Big fan of CHAOS. It's not even so much that you need an aggressive synth going the whole time. Maybe every two bars .. just some deep, growling WHU-YAO .. if that makes any sense at all. You've actually inspired me to make a demo of sorts, and put off my homework even further...
It's not exactly pretty, but that's .. sort of what I had in mind for a synth. Not as frequent as what I threw together, but maybe a little of that once and a while. Do you sequence this in FL? We can work something out for a synth, if you'd like ..

And Jeremy~ I Think I know what you mean with the Synth.
If you can make a sample with the synth you're talking about, that'd be sweet! (in C on 5th octave)
It's too bad that i don't use FL, i'm almost all hardware based right now.
Just Modplug Tracker and my Roland Fantom.
Listened to your demo though... I think you do the Asian Genre better than me O_O'' Nice sounds!

Total Tokens: 8,448.70 Donate Tokens | wow, this song TOTALLY reminds me of DDR, which would fit right there.. i really feel that the kick is not strong enough, or maybe too quiet..and the crashes at the end are un needed.. after your slow bpm, maybe you could speed up to the original bpm, but double it..i dont know, that always seems to happen on ddr songs nowadays.. and what better way to remember a song than to say "i almost had it but the speed up got me at the very end.."
i love the flute.. i love alot of it.

The Koto/Shamisen samples are all from my Roland Fantom.
What i do is when i sequence and sample the Koto/Shamisen, i move the pitch bend wheel slightly up and down to try to get it more realistic sounding.
If you'd like, i can record you single note Koto/Shamisen samples at different velocities ^_^ Just PM me.
Hopefully i do ok in the Contest, and if i'm lucky, this track will sit next to Eternus along with the top choices!
Again, thanks to everyone for the feedback!
