I haven't posted anything for a while, I have had much time to work on anything but I had been working on this for quite some time. Its called Intuition.

Broadjam - Connect to Independent Music

Comments and criticism welcome.

First off, I suggest getting an Acidplanet account if you don't plan on getting money. More uploads than your standard free Broadjam account.

Intuition: Right off the bat, there's far too much clipping. Don't confuse this with distortion, certain frequencies are getting too loud that they cause unnecessary distortion. The piano doesn't seem to follow any sort of melodic construct, just random notes strung together. And the fact that you use the generic FLstudio piano + generic FLstudio drum samples doesn't help either.

Rise: It almost feels like you know what you're doing in this. The synth melodies sort of follow a recognizable pattern, but the key changes it follows don't make much sense, with the unnecessary modulations up and down every four measures. Percussively it's somewhat better than intuition, but I can still discern several FLstudio samples. This actually seems like it would work better as an 8-bit track, because it sort of has that Gradius boss vibe to it. But if you're going to leave it as is, I suggest working on your mastering.

Hypnotic Dream: Same problem as the last two, melody doesn't follow any sort of logical pattern. And the fact that it's in C major bugs the crap out of me. Percussively it's not exceptional, minimal even.

Overall, I'd say just keep practicing. Listen to music that you like a lot and see if you can figure out what makes it good. Conversely, listen to music that you think is bad and figure out why.

I have a soundclick, but I link the broadjam because it lets me upload a higher bitrate.

Actually theres very few generic samples in Intuition from FL. And when there is its combined with another sound. The piano VSTi I'm using was recommended to me a while ago on here, its the best I could get without spending some serious money. I'm also aware of some of the clipping, but I'm not really sure how to get rid of it without killing the sound.

Actually those other 2 songs on there are old. Although thanks for giving me comments on those anyway. Trying to make things sound better on FL is a tedious task. I really want something like a MIDI controller that I can play on to make things sound more natural and not like a bunch of notes strung together. And turning little pictures of a knob with your mouse doesn't really give you the same result as doing so with a real knob and your hand.

I did Hypnotic Dream in C major because it was one of my first songs and thats the easiest key to write in.
