I remember we started doing this on 6.0, but it didn't really take off. Let's see if anything changed.
Okay, here's my story. I'm now functioning off my laptop. The laptop, while it has a nice 120 GB hard drive, does not have enough space for me to get every VST willy-nilly on the internets.
It is also no secret that there are a lot of crap VSTs out there, more so than quality ones. At the other end of the spectrum, though, are those awesome VSTs (like Syrus, Slayer 2, etc.) that cost too much for a college-student budget.
So, since FL is the endorsed music making machine of the forum, the focus here will be a collection of the finest VSTs (especially ones at reasonable/nonexistant prices) and their respective locations on the internet.
I will begin.
My number one helper thus far is:
Font! SF2 Player (Scroll to the bottom of the page.) I'm cheap and have the Producer Edition of Fruity Loops, so the built-in soundfont player is only a demo. Which sucks. So this is a basic Soundfont player that works and is free. Biggest problem I've had is that sometimes it doesn't name the soundfont channels properly. But that's only happened once or twice, and it's pretty easy to find such bugs.
Aaaaand... that's as far as I've gotten. I've been mostly using the built-in VSTs and samplers in FL, which I know suck. But I'm poor, and can't afford $150 things. I've tried google, but that yields a ton of nonfunctional or otherwise crap VSTs. So, from your experiences, which ones are worth playing with?
