Marketplace Rating: 23 | Looking for Sound Banks/Methods for Industrial Sounds Silly question, but Im looking for sound packs or banks to make sounds heard in industrial music, specifically the grindy/rusty drumwork, super distorted kick, and synths.
If anyone has methods to share of how to get those sounds with any sound, that would be much appreciated too. I'm not looking for loops. I'm looking for actual sounds.
If you want an idea of what kind of music I want to pull off, I uploaded a sample here: YouSendIt - File Sharing Transfer Delivery - PC FTP Replacement

But a mic, make a potable setup, get a sampler, and go to a factory and mess with shit.

Well, I'll tell you what that name came from. What do you think the sounds at the beginning of People Are People were? Synths? I'm saying he should get a sampler and, uh, SAMPLE ALREADY. Quote: |

| EDIT: Sorry to break it to you, that's not Industrial.
Yea, talk to DJ Meas, he's more geared to that. I'm more geared to Experimental Stuff. As for the synths, I'm just going to say go Alpha Juno II on eBay. $100-$200.00. Started that 'hardcore' synth sound with the What The...?! Patch (#83 I think).

Try not to be so rude in the future please, at least, if you want people to treat you with courtesy and respect. Your "everything here is DANCE DANCE DANCE!" line was just plain wrong, though. A lot of artists her enjoy writing a variety of types of music- I don't know if you've kept up with some of the posts in the last week or two, but we're kind of in an orchestral renaissance ( or at least we were). Not only do we write in diverse genres, but, get this- we listen to them as well. I personally have gotten every single track Trent or the nine inch nails have ever released. Don't assume you're more experienced in everything. I'm not saying, necessarily, that you don't know what you're talking about. I'm just saying that you're attitude could do with a little adjustment. Though, to be quite honest, I understand how you could see Helix's post as a bit standoffish and rude as well. We don't all have to be friends here, but as a music-making community that relies on our peers for balanced critiques and input in our works, it makes a lot of sense if we at least tolerate, if not get along with eachother. Please don't let this become a flame war, just take it as advice from someone who's been around for a couple years and doesn't want there to be a forum-wide war.
On the subject, however- If you know your wavetable and the like, a lot of the distorted kick/snare noises are easy to make on even a single oscilator. I've got a Korg Electribe that can do some nice ones- in a bit, I'm sure I could hook it up to a line in and record some of the types of sounds you want, if push comes to shove.
What you can do, however, is use VST's like Bitcrusher in order to "destroy" and distort the sounds you want. You can also hyper-compress them. That particular technique works very well.
Obviously, sampling out in the field may not be an option for you, but if you distort existing samplers that sound a little bit like what you need with tools like Bitcrusher, I'm sure you'll be able to create the sounds you need.
For synths- Vanguard is versatile enough to create most sounds. If you find that too limiting, I suggest Octopus or Toxic III. Some of these have soundbanks for different types of music floating around. Give serious-sounds a look in their VSTi section (though, by and large I dislike the site, they generally have semi-decent stuff there) and you may just find what you're looking for.
Other than that, the only person here who is pretty much a god at creating various types of experimental sounds (which may or may not resemble what you're looking for, admittedly) Is the Rai-Rai.
Good luck regardless.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | When i first read the post, i thought you were looking for metal clangy sounds. If you are, i have some that you can mess with and distort, but if you're looking for the synths used in this track, i'd go with Red Rebel's post in suggesting Vangaurd.
I didn't get to listen to the track when i first posted because it said the server was too busy~ Again, if you're still interested in some wierd/metal clangy sounds, i can share some with you ^_^ just post your interest.

I was a total douchebag.
However, Helix's post wasn't even a critique, It was just personal spite. For some reason, he's hated me ever since I first posted here. Quote: |

| That's what I thought at first. If you honestly want sounds like that though everyone, sample. Sample. Sample.I don't mean ripping sounds from OTHER tracks. I mean RECORDING sounds and either mapping them to a MIDI controller OR manipulating the sounds.

| Hmmm... well, the hard truth is Mics will always be semi expensive. I found a nice starter pack for $60.00 (mic, stand and cable), but seeing how you wouldn't need a stand for sampling, the cheapest GOOD mic you'll find's around $30.00 - $40.00. Good microphones though will cost more $100.00, those would do best, but you could survive with the $30.00 for now. There are cheap samplers for around $100.00 - $200.00. Those, from what I've seen, are just a box with some mappable buttons on them. Programs like Ableton and Logic have built-in samplers, which are GREAT to have. I'm sure there are tons more sequencers with built-in samplers, I don't know of any. Sorry if you already have one, I always fear I'm beating a dead horse when I recommend products x___x
Also, find out what your favorite artists use. Some artists like Dntel will openly say every single instrument he uses. Some like (MY FREAKING HERO) Safety Scissors can be contacted by E-Mail. He recommended a ton of stuff to me, including Ableton and sampling, as well as a ton of weird nichey synthesizers.

register and you can download TONS of samples for free and they are all under creative commons license which basically means you only have to give credit to the creator to use a sample
