The New Guy... :)

Hey guys!

Well I'd better start with an introduction of some kind, so here goes..

My name is Jason, but I prefer to be called Jay, yet most of my friends have now deferred and have started calling me J-beat/Jaybeat.

I'm 24, and currently living in London, UK.

I have been writing music since my dad bought me a keyboard when I was 7, and have gone through the stages that most of you fellow producers went through.

It all pretty much started with Dance Ejay, but has moved on through to Fruity Loops, Sonic Foundry Acid Pro, and Reason.

I now produce remixes of music that I like, and Originals that span from Dance, Trance, Drum'n'Bass, *COUGH* Reggae *COUGH*, and many other genres.

All *constructive* criticism is appreciated, but keep in mind that EVERYTHING I know is self taught, and noone has shown me how to do anything that I do, so any advice you guys can give me would aid me no-end.

Hey man, always cool to have some new people in here. I'm at your sound click listening to a few things.

Linkin Park Remix: I like the beat and ideas you put in to the song. It kinda sounds like one of those generic changes from rock to trance, but its still pretty cool. Some parts seem to clip for me, so you might want to work on production a bit more. Also is that you singing? The singing is pretty good, especially since it hits all the right notes :P.

Ressurection Remix: I like the feel of this. Again this suffers from the same thing as the linkin park remix. I hear clipping on high and low freqs. Try to fix that. Nice beat though.

I'm not quite sure which are originals. Name a few and I'll check em out.

I think right now, just work on production a bit more, as to not get that clipping.

Also, that main software do you use right now? Do you still use Reason at all?

That My Immortal Remix was like, whoa. Whoa. ;P

I really REALLY liked the hardcore interpretation. However, the transitions between slow and fast sections are sometimes minimal and sometimes not there at all, like at the very end. The MCing is in interesting idea, but it really clashes when it's side-by-side with the original vocals.

The clipping is extremely bad in the Resurrection remix at times. Definition of a Badboy sounds like it uses the lead synth from Better Off Alone, or at least it sounds very similar. The introduction is too simplistic and bare to justify the length. The "In The End" cover would be good if there wasn't so much clipping, once again.

You're definitely pretty good, but ya need to fix the clipping!

PS: I hate WoW.

I'll work on the production a bit more, I need the training really. I've taught myself everything I know, so I clearly have a few (sh*tlads of) areas I need to work on, so if you guys have any advice, then please let me know! Hahaa! Yeah thats my friend Phil (MC Virus) messing around, ripping on all those MCs that just talk utter random crap in an MC and expect it to sell, hence my responses in the song.

Please do. I actually wanted to make a hardcore My Immortal remix a long long time ago (I have the 2 year old FL files to prove it haha) because I thought it would sound incredible and you proved me right.

Just minus the MCing though. Sorry :/

Dude where have you been. You're pretty good. Your linkin park remix is cool. I like the tranceyish stuff. You're awesome dude. Definition of a bad boy is awesome. I love that synth you used for the break. It reminds me of Escape and the breakbeat percussion = win. Nice music mate!

The My Immortal Remix is good. Man, I'm still trying to get my drums to sound like that. I'm still workingon how to get that sound.

Wow... Genie in The Matrix? Nice. This is good stuff. Dude this stuff is really good.

I'm also curious as to what program you use. I'm still using FL Studio although I got a bunch... I mean a TON of other sounds so I don't really use the one that came with it anymore.

Wow! I'm having such a buzz right now reading what you guys think of my stuff! I've never had such feedback before! You all rawk! =D

I'm browsing some sample CD sales pages RIGHT NOW so if I get some good ones, hopefully I should have a few more really different sounding tracks being put on to my soundclick really soon! You guys have actually really given me a lot of confidence to make some more stuff, thank you all SO much! >.< I cant push that enough! Thank you!

I solely use FL Studio 7 for writing the music and adding FX, and sometimes use Acid 4 for adding lyrics and other effects in to the track.

If anyone wants the FLP files of any of my stuff, gimme a shout, and I'll send them to you!

I have SO much to learn about making my tracks sound a little less... "analogical" I guess is the word.. They pretty much all sound flat, except for a couple where I've put some stereo enhancements on the hihats / clap / lyrics, but if ANYONE has any advice on how to get a good WIDE sound, it would be massively appreciated!

Thanks again guys! I've been made to feel so welcome here already, by you guys and the admins! ^^ I think I'll be here for a looong time to come.

Ooh.. and while I remember, does anyone have any ideas or little melodies they have written that they want some work on? I never charge for work and love to see people's reactions when they have a little midi/flp melody taken and made in to a commercial sounding dance/trance/ drum'n'bass / pop / reggae track, its a massive buzz! If so, send me a PM here, and I'll hook you up with my email addy.

And Dreamcube, dude... F*CKING WOW! Mindburner is rockin' my world right now! That oldskool happy hardcore sound among the hard recent sounds of Uneffected screaming bass is unreal! Jeep the tracks coming man!
