It's just a pretty basic setup right now. I've got a Roland Juno-G, a Roland SP-404, a dbx 120a sub synth, a Mackie 1202-VLZ mixer (needs to be replaced when I'm not a poor bastard anymore), and I hook it all up to the computer with an M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface. I also have an M-Audio MIDIsport Uno MIDI interface that I use for the SP-404.

Image-Line was sued by the company that produces FrootLoops. They were forced to change their program's name from FruityLoops to FLStudio.

Also, they recently (FL8) made inversion of playlist standard, and as of FL9, there is no longer an option to un-invert the playlist. According to Image-Line, their plan is to do away with the playlist altogether and have everything done in the clip window, as it is a "superior" method of producing. I disagree. Your thoughts?

So its moving away from loop based, and moving towards linear based?

i don't really like how the pattern paradigm in FL works, and i generally steer people away from it these days. i sure as hell wouldn't use it, but that's mostly because i'm moving toward more freeform composition styles. i like not having to group things together because it gives me more opportunity to switch rhythms around and avoid repetition naturally.

Probably going to start using PreSonus Studio One soon to make my music. Got the Artist version with my new FireBox interface.

FL has always had the ability to not use loops as it's basis for sequencing, and it's in the same window as the pattern sequencer (the clip sequencer.)

explain. Cause from what I've seen, FL doesnt allow you to sequence clips like Reason, or Ableton, or something.

You can sequence by sample alone, by pattern alone, or by a combination of both.

You can also convert patterns of synths/loops/whatever into clips of samples, and slice them any way you want, all in the same playlist window.

still not the same thing from what I am understanding.

Ok, so for something like this http://flstudio.image-line.com/docum...L9Playlist.png would you be able to just open up one of the midi clips, and add or remove some notes from ONLY that one midi clip thingy?

Click the icon in the top left of the clip (the three piano keys,) go to "make unique," then double click to open up the piano roll.
The hot-key ctrl+shift+c is to duplicate the selected pattern if you don't want to use the mouse.
FL will save the specific instance as a new pattern, and automatically renumber all patterns already existing as one later, so you can keep all similar patterns within the same number group.

I guess that's almost the same :P Too many extra steps XD. Either way I'll stick to what I'm using.

Yeah, I don't know why I find it necessary to defend FL. Maybe deep down I feel weak for using such a "beginner" program?

lol meh. Its really all about what makes you the most productive. As far as I'm concerned, if you know what you're doing, you can make quality work no matter what DAW you use.

FL gets a bad rap, but its just as good as most other programs. I think the big issue is that if you use default fl stuff, then everybody KNOWS its fl, and its looked down upon for sounding generic and whatnot.
