Default Aftermarket GPU coolers

I fucking hate ASUS, however, I have a few of their video cards, and other than what happened today this one has been good to me so far.

I own a RadeonHD 4830. Newegg no longer sells my unit, but it comes with a GPU Cooler nearly matching this one:

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH4670/DI/512M/A Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

There is nothing rock solid or heart touching about this thing.

The card safely shut down my machine preventing damage to the card its self, but I don't have a video card until I get the fan replaced.

As such I am now looking for an aftermarket GPU cooler. has anyone had any experience with these things, or something to recommend? I've never done a 3rd party GPU cooler before.

There's several fanless designs (with space to add a fan) that work really well. The AC Accelero's are pretty popular choices for gpu cooling and they're cheap.
Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING ACCELS1 Rev 2 VGA Cooler - VGA Cooling
I've also seen people add fans with some little metal clips or zip ties to these for better performance.

Newegg doesn't list it as compatible with the 48xx series, but AC's website does, so I'd assume you'd be fine with that.

Zalman also has a similar cooler, but it's all copper. It's also like $55...

Replacing the cooler is fairly simple too. Unscrew the old cooler, remove, clean the gpu of any residue left over, install new cooler (possibly with better thermal grease than what comes on it), and enjoy.

I ended up buying the Zalman VF1000 or whatever it was with the blue led and the retarded amount of copper.

Go buy one of these. They're great. Really! My video card idles at 43 right now. The AS5 hasn't set in yet.

I'm adapting an Xbox 360 CPU heatsink to fit on my 8600GT, still in the planning process at the moment though. Right now I've just taken off the tiny 40mm fan from the crappy heatsink and strapped on a 120mm Yate Loon high flow fan for now. Idle temps are pretty much the same as before (55 degrees on low fan speed, 50 at high speed), but load temps have improved a lot.
