Default AMD aquires ATi

Dang, I totally did not know that AMD aquired ATi! Sheesh, I've been away from the lastest tech news for too long... This is really interesting though... I really did not expect AMD to aquire another company anytime soon, especially a company as big as ATi. Their idea of FUSION processors is pretty interesting but I just hope things go okay. I'm a big AMD fan and wish them luck!

Honestly I wish AMD didn't do this as I'm a pretty big Nvidia fan.

Their fusion processors are risky business unless they pull everything off correctly.

FUSION is a form of the x86 processor that will combine both the CPU and the GPU at the silicon level. Seems like a brilliant move for the lower end market. Mom and Dad and your little sister will need a chip like this because you're no longer doing integrated chipsets for graphics, which will make their computing experience better. It can also make for a smaller form-factor, and there are rumors that unused GPU power can be transferred to other applications.

This will also help laptop makers if they can get it to run on a lower power consumption and lower heat levels.

I know. It was on the paper in Calgary Herald. It's sorta stupid that AMD is having a computer war against Intel. Wait...if AMD bought ATI... does that mean that there products won't be on sale anymore?

If only that was true. ATI videocards will still probably go on cause AMD wouldn't be crazy enough to kill that off cause of the potential for profit in that particular avenue.

I've always loved AMD for gaming. As well as ATI, but I really want an Nvidia card next. I'm stuck on which to get..

AMD has always been my processor choice cause the one time I had a Intel based machine was had severe overheating issues! I know that ATI's All In Wonder and TV Wonder products have been discontinued.

The amd GPU and CPU in one will serve better in small notebook computers as it requires less power and space. It wont practically be used in desktops.

Just because AMD owns ATI, doesnt mean you cant get an Nvidia card, or will AMD even consider making their processors exclusively compatible with ATI cards.

Speaking of AMD I came across this....

This is only a business rumor, it has not been publicly released or verified.

AMD has already completed the 45 nm technology for CPUs. They believe they can release that tier of processors by 2007. Intel is at least 9 months behind 45 nm or any higher innovative CPU technology. AMD's stocks are at all time low after being whooped by Intel's 2nd gen of Dual core processors (Core 2 duo conroe). Get where I am going with this? hahaha

That doesn't really sound likely but if it's true...then hot dang! AMD already mastering 45nm tech... it WOULD make sense kind of because AMD hasn't been doing much of anything for some time. I guess they've been working on this during all that time? Just skip 65nm all together! Go straight for the 45nm! Hah, nice one AMD!

And the only thing I'm worrying about is whether Nvidia will continue to develop their NForce chipsets for AMD mobos. I must say the NForce line of chipsets have been my favorite.
