Default Anyone know a good sound editor?

Now also requesting some other help involving Visual Studio & the projects I'll be doing with it. New request at bottom of this post

I'm taking programming at school & some of the projects are going to require sound, so I'd like to take some of the stuff I have & convert it/edit it (since we're using Visual Studio, it needs to be a .WAV file). Anyone know which one I should use? I downloaded Audacity, but I want something that'll let me take the videos I have (MP4 & .AVI) & let me work w/ the audio w/o having to convert the video to a MP4.

I need some pics & I was wondering if there's something that'll let you take screenshots of the video you're watching.

I had to download Audacity to see its menus lol
in the file menu there is an option to "Export as WAV", that's what you'd want to use.

I know my way around Visual Studio a bit too, so if you need any help with that I can try. Hopefully you're using VB or C# (or even C++)

I use Audacity. The exporting for WAV thing is the only thing I have against it.

I'm using the 1.3.7 Beta if it makes any difference (doesn't have Export to EAV). I think I'll uninstall it & downgrade.

We started using Visual Basic from Excel & now we've moved up to VS.

OK, I downloaded the 1.2 version & it exported the file fine, now. I'll see if I can get it to work at school.

I am using Audacity but I'll give Sony Sound Forge a shot and then compare and contrast.

Yeah, Audacity is working fine now for me.

Is there any program that'll let me make sound clips from videos w/o having to convert the video to a MP3?

GoldWave can open AVIs directly to work with its audio. You could also open it in VirtualDub, set a selection and demux the audio stream.

*checks converter site* It'll convert to AVI, so it could work, I guess. Sometimes I'll download videos that aren't .avi (might be .MP4 already or something annoying like RealPlayer). Plus I'll usually find something that I do want after I've converted the file into a MP4 for my PSP.

I'll download GoldWave perhaps tomorrow once I decide what I want to use for our current project (make a iPo.....I mean, MyPod Nano (those old, long ones) that plays sounds).

I'll ask about programming games (& perhaps post about the idea of the game that I want to make, but probably can't due to my lack of knowledge of the moment) later when we get to it (can't work at it at home w/ no Visual Studio).

3/21: I can't get GoldWave since it's going to cost me money. I need a FREE audio editor. I'd like one that'll open videos to work w/ the audio (MP4 & .avi)

Also, I tried editing the audio of a video on Audacity. OUCH. It's like listening to 20 chalkboards being scratched at different speeds...

Alright, downloaded Virtualdub & it seems it won't open a bunch of my videos (MP4s) due to "invalid frame rate".

I'm going to check SourceForge, but since we're going into town today to see Watchmen, I won't have much time today.
