Default Best forums/???

I'm thinking about dumping everything on my site and just making it into a forum. Anyone currently know what is the best forum software right now??? Should I go with vBulletin???

SMF is the best I've seen. A lot of customization and high security. Installing mods is very simple as well, as it's automatic.

You fucking WIN. SMF is absolutely the greatest forum ever. It's an incredibly leap in the right direction from YaBB.

Don't go with phpBB. I used to like it, but now that I look at it, it's really not that editor-friendly, unless you have witnessed the construction of the entire code.

Unless you're into pirating things (not condoning it), you'll have to shell out $160 for vBulletin. And honestly, unless you're running a large site (think over 1000 actively posting users), you don't need vBulletin. Save your money.

SMF is a system which I don't have much experience on, I posted a few times on Arch0wl's site after the phpBB to SMF switch, and I threw it on a test server for a few weeks to check out the admin side of it, and it seems pretty good. The admin panel is easy to use, MOD installation is a 2-step breeze (FTP to correct location, click one link in admin panel), and the moderators get a good amount of toys to play around with. Honestly though, you'd probably want to ask someone that admins a site running SMF for their opinion on the software.

I haven't had my own, but from using it, SMF is incredible. Pretty quick and very simple to use.

I still have a copy of the Invision Power Board 2.0 Final while it was free. It worked good for my needs but now that I no longer have some at the moment...

I stick with Invision. The latest versions have lots of interesting features, and it's graphically nice and easy to manage (<3 the Admin panel =D).

Plus, most of the skins for it are 101% free... totally contrary to vBulletin skins, that the 95% of them are paid <.<

I prefer phpBB because it has a very large community of users & developers who can provide support, it has a less restrictive license (GPL).

Also, with phpBB you can get "pre-modded" versions of the board (I've also seen a couple mods that include pre-modified files) which appear to be prohibited by the IPB license.

If you're looking for an easy installation, might I point out that surpass also has a phpBB installer in cPanel.

Bumping 2.5 year old threads probably won't gain you a lot of points around here...

However it did help answer my question on what forum software to use.

Why lock? Regardless of whether or not the original poster sees this, it's a good thread and the bumping post had good information. I looked at this thread and noticed the crazy bump a couple days ago and didn't lock it.

2.5 year bump? This is a technology section. Things change in 2.5 hours let alone 2.5 years. While this information may still be relevant, we need to not set a precedent where this is continuing.
