Marketplace Rating: 2 | Yea. You are almost alwatys going to pay less to build it yourself. Why? Because when you buy these prebuilt machiens, you are paying for the name. "I got a (insert name here)" where as if you just build it yourself, it's just some machine you built.
Those who are computer illiterate, I swear to god, will almost always say that their Dell is better than anything I can build myself. Because it's a Dell...

I trying to tell you that you can make your own computer for the same price and it will still be faster as long as you know what you are doing.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Its a given that building a computer is a lot cheaper than getting a prebuilt one. You have the name liscensing to pay for like dell hp gateway etc. THE only time I have ever seen a prebuilt computer cheaper than the equivalent of building it urself is when dell was trying to quickly get rid of their old model so they can market the new model. But of course those computers are never the top end specs.

Basically a X1800XT
A gig of ram
A 580 watt psu
180 gigs of hdd
and a crossfire/sli ready motherboard, with case keyboard and mouse for 500 almost a year ago?
I call your bluff sir.

I call your bluff sir. | Actually, I found a motherboard comprable to Dell's offering, a 3.2 ghz cpu, a 6600, 1 gb of ram, DVD/CDRW combo drive, 250 gb hard disk, with a sound blaster live card in it.
I said same spec. The homebuilt box didnt need SLI, came with a keyboard and mouse. the only difference was the homebuilt box had two more USB ports than the dell would (Whopde fucking do.)
You cant speak to me about AMD or ATI chips, I refuse to believe that those companies exist. My K6 cought fire when properly installed (the guys at bestbuy surveyed the damage and said I did nothing wrong, keep in mind, its best buy, but I had done about 30 CPU installs by then, I think I could get it right at that point) and my ATI video card in my Thinkpad has the worst driver support ever (Lenovo's Driver? I think not. ATI's Driver? would be great if it worked.)
I work with Nvidia and Intel only, for good reasons.

Well its better than my crappy old ready made computer I now use as a shelf. My cousin and uncle make computers so I just ask them to make me one, and it costs me nothing.

I'm just saying it seems so odd that a year ago, they had all this for so cheap when a year ago, I dont even think they started touching on smart shader 3.0 or anything. But yeah, this shouldnt have even been started and this thread should go back to topic.
