Default Card Reader Not Working

I posted this problem in another thread but it obviously didn't get seen, so I'm opening a new one. I bought this card reader a month back, and it's a really good reader, however with it plugged in, my PC will not boot properly/at all.

Here's a picture of my motherboard (ASUS M2V):

Now I'm assuming that the reader plugs into the header (labeled 1), but if I do that, my PC doesn't boot properly, if at all.

I've also noticed a second possible place where it could go, just underneath the third PCI slot (labeled 2). All the pins and everything match up and it works (that is, after I've had to restart it due to it always crashing after the BIOS screen).

I really don't know where I'm supposed to put it, the instructions are shit and only really tell you how to mount it into the case.

Can anyone help at all?

If you look really closely at the board, right next to the headers, it should say something like USB6 or 1394, make sure it's plugged into the correct one for your reader (I believe it's USB_, but I'm not sure if all card readers are the same)

Also, make sure you don't have something in the bios messing with it.

You have lots of computer problems

Isn't the "Unknown Slot" a pin connector for external USB ports, like ports on the Computer Case? That's what mines look like anyway. From what I can tell, the two circled are pretty much the same, except one has plastic around it and the other doesn't.

That's what I thought, a friend said something about the BIOS maybe messing with something, I'm not sure. I'll check the mobo when I get home and report back.

Thanks for the reply.

you know, ASUS has their manuals for download from the internet, and those manuals would tell you what that connector is.

So basically they're the same, the difference being that one is 78 and the other 56.

Yup, they're both the same. The 56 and 78 means port 5 and 6, 7 and 8. That said, see if there's anything in the bios like I mentioned earlier.

I really don't know what to look for in the BIOS.

Look around for Onboard Devices I guess, I haven't seen my BIOS since I tried to OC my Processor from a bus speed of 133Mhz to 250, which ended up needing me to reset the board.

And that was half a year ago.
