I am aware that it's going to die soon, so for my next computer, I was thinking a Dell laptop with 12" screen and 60GB of data. I don't want it too large, because I want to carry it to school to do projects on. What do you guys suggest?

I'm planning to use it for school work, and music. Basically Microsoft Word and Windows Media Player.

I would recommend at least something with a low-tier graphics card (something with maybe 64 or even 128 megs) so your computer can perform a tad better. Integrated graphics fucking suck. | |

You have a price budget? Up to how much are you willing to pay then?
Suggestion:
If you're just looking for something light, then why not go for a Sony VAIO C notebook or a Black-colored Apple Macbook.

Apple computers are really good at using their resources well, and Leopard doesn't take nearly as much CPU to run as Vista. However if you do want to game, find a good gaming laptop. Anything with a dual-core should be fine, but I wouldn't go for any less than that. Also, if you plan on running vista (which you will if you get a PC) make sure you have at LEAST 1 GB of RAM. 2 is best though. Also take into consideration what other kinds of things you want to run. For instance, for music I use reason, and with all the wiring and all the tracks, I need at least 2 GB of RAM (since I'm using vista) to run it well. If all you want is a media player and a word processor though, don't even bother with PCs. Hell Reason works just as good (if not better) on a mac as opposed to PC.
tl;dr
get a macbook, unless you plan on gaming.

Well, if the poster is just using it for basic word processing and music player, then you can go for Sony VAIO C which is around 80k-100k Philippine pesos (which is less than 200 American dollars in your country........or even less).
Comes in five colors, has an Intel T7700 processor (already 45nm die-shrink), 2 GB of DDR2 RAM (option to upgrade to 4 GB), 128 MB of discreet graphics (by ATI I thinK) and of course 5-6 hours of battery life.

♦ The only gaming I would do would be my 2 versions of StepMania, Be Patchi, and some NES and SNES emulators.
♦ I will need something to take to school on a regular basis, because I have a load of reports coming up. I mean, something with a small screen, and small enough to fit in my backpack.
♦ I will get Windows, not Mac, because I already have a fairly new iMac in my home (I use that for my sheet music). It's always nice to have a Mac and a PC.
♦ I have $2,000 to spend, so something that I can pay for, as I yet don't have a job (I'm desperate for a job).
♦ Do you think an 8 year old desktop Windows XP is worth repairing and putting Vista on?

$2000 is quite a lot to spend. You can get one of the new HP laptops. Like this one, but obviously not from this site. Also, I've seen the display model for one of these and it's supposed to be a copper colour.
$2,579, so maybe you should save up some more.
