Digital Camera Purchase

My dad is looking to purchase a new digital camera in the range of $100-$250 (hopefully from Newegg). He lists ease of use and reputable brand as top priorities. It should also use SD for memory and support direct uploading via USB. What are your recommendations?

Panasonics are pretty nice. 6x optical zoom, optical image stabilazation, and fast startup time makes them really nice for point and shooters. There are plenty of picture presets, and the easy mode is good enough for day to day shooting.

The main downside is that the noise reduction is a bit over aggressive. You don't notice it on printouts or scaled down pics for email, but when you look at it 1:1 on most monitors, you can see what I mean. Also, the amount of manual control is not their for real serious photographers, but this is typical of your average shooter.

Anyways, take a look at this one at Newegg. It's $175, plus there is a combo deal for a free 1GB SD card. (You have to click on View All 3 Combos to see the one with only the SD card.)

I'm a canon person, but I'm not too fond of their cameras that are within that price range.

My sister just bought this camera and I like it a lot.

It has a pretty big lcd and assuming he's like most people, the automatic settings are pretty good.

And holy shit that combo deal is really good.

Under the price range of $150, this is the best one I could think of. Any dissenters?

my friend has a very similar camera (A series camera with uhhh, hell if i know how many pixels) and it takes suprisingly good pictures. Its got the canon feel to it where the white balance is a little too much on the cool side, but it does everything it needs to, and can focus real close for macro shots.

and man, if you arent happy with it, considering spending more than 150 for a digital camera. sheesh.

I like Nikon cameras. THey make decent digital SLR cameras but aim and shoot I don't know. They are probably good too.

Otherwise Konica Minolta is nice
