Default External Drives (Pen, HDD, etc.)

What kind(s) of external drive(s) do you use, and what's its max capacity?

I have 3 pen drives; a 256MB Lexar JumpDrive for my CodeBreaker (primarily used for transferring codes and my own saves to/from PC. Great for PS2 data backup!), a 512MB Sandisk Cruzer Micro for whatever (which is currently empty), and a 2GB PNY Attaché for my games that I download (primarily from Reflexive).

I also own recently a 6GB Flash HDD by Samsung (yes, it's read by Windows as a HDD). I save my videos, mp3's, and such on there.

I wish to own the huge capacity external HDDs, like the 60GB. Why spend $250 though?

Hmm.

I have a SanDisk Micro Cruiser 2GB for everyday stuff (portable firefox, portable gaim, resume) that I carry with me everywhere.

Then I have a 500GB External HDD that sits around and gets plugged in only when my 2 200GB Internal HDDs get full.

i just have one external, and its pretty cool. It has a readout that tells you the amount of free space and the volume label. Being who i am i needed something good for the volume label.

I have a Disgo Lite 259Mb stick and a 20Gb Portable hard drive, which is also an mp3 player, but the mp3 player bit sucks. I have a 2Gb Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo for my phone and another one but 64Mb, which came with the phone?

Why is it that an 80Gb portable hard drive is about £100 and a 20Gb mp3 player is £200? The only difference is that it has a screen and some firmware on it...big deal.

2 SanDisk Cruzer Micro's. One 256, one 512.

I'd like to get a 300GB external USB or FireWire drive, but I somehow doubt that I'll need to have another 300GB lying around. I still have 120GB free on my internal drive.

I have a 512 MB PNY Attache. I tend to lose them a lot, so I'm glad I found it. I told my mom it was for school. Yeahhhh, right.

Two of my friends got free 1GB drives at Digital Life by being all cute and going up to the booth people with copious amounts of computer technology. I was very, very envious.

I've got a 512 PNY Attache as well, though the metal part that plugs into the computer has come loose and fell into the casing. I consider it lost to me.

Other than that I have no external drives, unless you count my iPod (which is full of music so it doesn't do much good as a drive). If my internal (80 gigs, 10 gigs left) goes out I'm pretty much fucked.

Nice! Remind me to never buy one of those, ever.

Though the same thing happened to one of the USB ports on my Compaq laptop once... I never figured out why. Maybe I just plug in my mouse with too much fervor.

Anyway, I have one 60GB external drive that I use for backing up my laptop's internal drive, because those things are notoriously unreliable. I really want to get a 320GB drive, but I can't come up with any rational pretext for doing so. (I don't do that whole music/movie/game download thing. My 60GB internal hard drive has maybe 40GB free.)

I also have a cute little thumb drive (512 MB) for transferring files. I keep meaning to use it to back up my PS2 memory cards, but I don't actually have any backup utils for PS2 and I never get around to figuring out what one would use for that and obtaining it.

The really depressing part of all this is that I nominally work in the technology sector.

since my last post wasnt exactly on topic.

I use my iPod to transfer everything really. I have a 256 meg for quick files, and linux booting. and a 512 meg for company related shit that I actually attach to an internal USB connector and boot from sometimes.

i have a 120 gig internal hard drive in a Nexstar internal-->external converter.

the 120 gig was only 20 bucks after rebates, and the nexstar was free from a friend.

i also carry a 512 thumb-drive with me at school

I got a 250 GB external hard drive that I use to store extra pictures, music, and movies.

I also have a Lexar 2 GB flash drive that I got for my birthday that I use for moving and storing extra term papers, ITG data, and games.

I also have 2 512 MB PNY attache flash drives that I got for free from buying other things and a random 256 MB flash drive from a company.
