Default Flash drive issue

So I went to an arcade to play some ITG2 the other day, and for some reason, ever since I got back, my USB flash drive has been screwed up. It keeps wanting me to reformat it, but theres some really important files on there, and I don't want to delete them. Is there any way I can back them up before I format the drive? Or recover them after I format it?

by any chance did you pull the drive out before your set finished, while it was saving, or did the machine crash while it was in?

When you plug it in does it say something like 0 bytes capacity 0 bytes used? If it says that most likely the file table was damaged possibly caused by removing the flash drive while it was in use. If that is the case you might need to take it to a professional data recovery center. If the files appear but they are inaccessible or cannot be read from source there are some softwares that can recover or fix damaged files.

the files don't appear at all. It won't even let me open upt he drive. It just asks me to reformat, and I want to know if I will be able to recover or prevent the loss of this data before I go and reformat it. It's not quite important enough to go to a data recovery place, but if there's some freeware that can help me recover the data, please point me in that direction.

A (possible to fail) thing you can try is try opening the drive
on My Computer WITHOUT double-clicking it. Use the address bar to go there instead.

If that or any of the other suggestions we give fails, start
saving money when you decide to take it to a professional data recovery center.

I have no idea how that's supposed to help. Besides this issue is probably long since resolved.
