I need a video editing program that can split videos

I need one that can split two videos, then merge them.

i.e. have one video playing on the left side, and another on the right side/some random corner (like in many tatsujin videos). I know that Vegas can do it, but the trial only saves the first 5 seconds from what I've seen and I don't feel like buying it right now.

Does anyone know of any free/good trial versions of a program that can do this? If you can tell me then I will love you. Thanks.

Oh, I didn't think that Wax had that feature... but after playing around with it a little more, I found it. Thanks for your help.
