Default IBM Thinkpad T22 Laptop LCD Blinking, Sound not working in Linux

Sup Bemanistyle?
Recently bought another pieced together laptop from a friend. It's another T22 model ThinkPad. He said that there was a problem with the LCD, and would blink uncontrollably unless scaled down to 1024x768, but he said there was a certain way you would have to do it, and I'm not sure what he means by that. When he first gave it to me it worked fine, but I reinstalled the OS on it due to my own configuration needs that I didn't know how to change without reinstalling.

I also have no sound in Linux. He told me this was because of the newest Kernals sound support for this laptop being broken/taken out. I need to know how to roll back my kernal to the last version so I can see if sound will work under that.

If anyone can help, that would be amazing.
Thanks guys.
