Default Keyboard not registering multiple keystrokes at the same time.

When I play stepmania and get more then 2 keys at the same time, the keyboard doesnt register them. I know why that happens (matrixes n stuff I heard), but is there somewhere to bypass that with some software or a register hack or is it all based on the hardware?

Well. First of all I think this should have probably went over in simulation. But besides that.. instead of "hacking" and software you could just buy a new computer, considering in 99% of the "My keyboard won't.." problems are easily solved because its usually just the keyboard. Have you tried using another keyboard?

I've found that usb keyboards usually work a lot better with registering multiple keys as opposed to your standard ps2 keyboard.

You might also try, as silly as it sounds, modifying your key mappings. I had a keyboard once that wouldn't let me play properly with, say, ASL;, but had no problem with ASDF or JKL;. Weird, I know...but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, especially if you are just using the arrow keys, no keyboard that I know of will register more than two at once. That's the main reason why I play "split" with one mapping on the arrow keys and an extra on WASD and just play with one or two fingers on each set. Helps your speed considerably when you get used to it, IMO.

Well, I only have one keyboard so switching isnt an option (Im also all out of money atm so I cant buy a new one). I know exactly what causes the problem, I just thought there might be a way to bypass it.

Actually, my laptop keyboard will allow me to push all four buttons at once, although it's still a pretty crap keyboard for playing StepMania on. My friends used to hate it when I made stepfiles for them, and they couldn't keep their combo up because I used to put 4 key combos on them

i remember with my laptop, when there were doubles in stepmania, i would just press all four directional keys, and would always get perfects on them.

Laptop keyboards allow for quite a few simultaneous presses -- and it doesn't matter which keys you press. Depending on which keys you press, most keyboards for PCs do not support it (try playing a beatmania simulator on your average PC keyboard... Yikes!). There are a few around, but you're best to search around yourself. Ask your local retailer about gaming keyboards and whether the keyboard supports simultaneous pressing. Gaming keyboards should pretty much work fine (though I can't say I've tested my brother's keyboard out... But it's pretty damn high-end, even for a keyboard, so I'd expect that I would be able to press more than *any* 3 buttons at once.

Well, I have 2 keyboards. One is a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard and that works fine, i have that keyboard in one apartment. In my other apartment I have a quite standard PS/2 keyboard, that will allow me to press 2 keys at once, good luck doing songs like Vertex Alpha, Tsedougamush (spelling?) etc on that, its impossible.

I also have a really old PS/2 keyboard wich I doubt will work any better but I'll give it a shot... otherwise I might bind some other keys and see if the keyboard allows that instead...
