Not too sure what response I'll get for this, but well...
Discuss Linux here, even if you don't like it, it'll be nice to get some views and experiences (good and bad).

EDIT: Does it go slow if you use the scrollwheel or when you drag the scrollbars as well?

Have you tried the Ubuntu Forums?

on the subject of smooth scrolling, there's a preference in firefox that enables it (it's under "advanced"). beyond that, are there any applications in specific that don't let you scroll smoothly?

If Michael Dell uses Ubuntu on his own Dell Inspiron (which is what I have), how is it that he doesn't appear to have any of these problems?

Keep in mind, this is fucking Michael Dell you're talking about.
Anyways, Linux user here (recently switched, haven't found a real reason to switch back to Windows yet). Ubuntu 7.10 is my flavor of choice, and I'm loving it so far. Everything seems to be a lot more stable, crashes are handled a lot better than in Windows, and I think that Ubuntu has a much more efficient memory addressing system than any Microsoft OS ever did.
All I gotta do now is get a VNC solution set up, and I'll be the happiest boy in the world.

Someone over at Xorg needs to come up with a solution for a remote plugin system, so I could continue to use RDP if I move back to linux again..

Only problem is that it's not designed with a whole lot of security in mind, so you'd need to look into SSH forwarding. FreeNX also looks interesting, though I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

My god security, Look, this is the internet. the Feds are looking at you and if you haven't gotten through this yet you either need to stop looking at child porn or get over it. I'm not saying we should all turn off our firewalls and antivirus programs, but we can stop being hyper paranoid. The people who want to look are going to. But yeah, SSH Forwarding is a good way to add security to this.
I want xrdp to be done, so I can install it on a box again.

I'm actually genuinely curious, because I'm running the nvidia driver on both my desktop and laptop.

I dont know if they finally closed this bug, but it was present in like 40 versions in a row. So who knows.
