Default Monitor ''auto adjusts'' and streches the screen to much when I play a game

So since I wanted to play Need For Speed Carbon again, I was all like ''fff lemme see how badass it looks at high res''. After I did that and switched back, all of my games that have the resolution options below 1024x768 have the screen too streched, and this makes it look very ugly.
Help?
EDIT: lawl typo in title

Is your monitor widescreen

if so, that's the problem. You need to set your game settings to a widescreen resolution, ie 1280x800

Alternatively, search your monitor's control panel for scaling options. Switch it to the "keep aspect ratio" option to prevent stretching over the entire screen.
