I've known Razer mouse drivers to crash Windows computers after like 12 hours if that tells you anything.

It needs drivers? I don't see any special buttons or anything.

i thought you owned a mac reenee; why are you getting a "gaming" mouse?

also this review

Quote:
Thats what I was expecting when I purchased this mouse. I'd bought a Deathadder to replace my aging Copperhead only to find that the shape didn't suit my gaming style or even the shape of my hand. I thought it had poor ergonomics despite it being made to be an ergonomic mouse. The Diamondback/Copperhead has a better shape, in my opinion, for very quick and precise gaming. It's nimble shape and small tapered base make it much easier to make precise quick movements with. The shape of regular mouses make gaming less precise because they have flat and wide bases. If you make a quick movement and need to lift the mouse you have to do it at a straight angle. It just feels more cumbersome to me after using a Copperhead so long.

Anyways. I purchased this mouse after returning the Deathadder in hopes that it would track like the Deathadder. Current laser technology can't track very fast movements. Say you wanted to turn very quickly. Well the laser will stop tracking your movement. So I hoped that this mouse would allow me to have the shape I was used too and the benefit of having a 3G sensor. Sadly the drivers for this mouse are awful and the mouse itself is one of the least sensitive I've ever used. From a technical standpoint this mouse should track exactly the same as the deathadder but it's very slow. It feels like an average mouse from years ago (similar to an MS intellimouse)

Whats worse is that it's polling rate is locked to 125hz. This is quite terrible that razer would release a mouse that has a polling rate the same as a cheap non-gaming USB mouse. You can tweak the polling rate with external software but the polling rate isn't constant.

Overall, I don't know what Razer was trying to achieve with this mouse. I feel like I've been conned and this isn't the first time I've felt that way with a Razer product.
the second review is probably someone that works for the company

reenee: the drivers are for it's "enhanced capabilities" or whatever

My original Diamondback drivers have never done that.

If this goes wrong I'll be getting a 3G.

(Which may probably lead you to going with another model of mouse?)

:P

And ignore that shitty review that ranatalus posted, the Diamondback is an old product and i believe they made that mouse to convince all the people using Diamondbacks to part with them.

Look at some real reviews, not some crap on Amazon.

No, what's wrong with offering some advice. :P

Although I bet I get the same kind of attitude from the OP.

Typical.

I'll be direct: Merch whore. No reason. But the idea of a "gaming mouse" piqued me since the moment I get my new computer, I'm going to slap the Orange Box on it.

I'm staying out of that argument by the way.

And I'd like a different mouse just because I'm getting my Macbook "soon"...ish. My current mouse isn't actually being picked up by the computer sometimes.

A mouse is a mouse. As long as it has enough buttons you need and it moves with relatively decent precision, then all mice are pretty much the same as far as I am concerned.

I still use a ball mouse.

i looked around at other reviews and no one seemed thrilled with it

They don't have scroll wheels.

They have a tiny ball.

No scrotum burns, please.

Fuck the Diamondback. :b I personally use an IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0, and I love it, but I'm not going to only push that on you.

The Logitech MX518 (or 510 if you can find it) is a great mouse and is very solid. A lot of people like the "clickyness" of it, because if you're clicking, you'll feel the click. The shape is also really sharp so if you're into that kinda thang, it's nice.

I love my IME3.0 and it'd be the best mouse in the world to me if it didn't have an issue with some of them randomly scrolling (as in some of them every-so-often "ghost-scroll," which really fuckin' sucks when you use mwheeldown to jump ). It's really comfortable to just lay your hand on.

Really, you don't need more than 800DPI (the IME3.0 is 400DPI, the MX510 is 800DPI, and the MX518 is 1600DPI with the option of lowering that) unless you're playing Minesweeper on a 1" monitor, which is why I recommended the MX510/MX518 over the newer G5/G7. I mean I'm sure the G5 is nice, but it's a waste of money in my eyes when the MX518 is still for sale. If you really want a wireless gaming mouse, then the G7 is the best option I guess.

Go out and snag a Logitech Marble Mouse from RadioShack. $20, and the best mouse I've ever used. Been using it for 2ish years now, and I'll never look back. The precision is amazing, and I get ZERO stress from extended use. I purchased one for my friend, who was amused by the fact that I had a non-traditional mouse, and she's been using hers ever since. I purchased one for my mom and sister, who have never looked back. My stepdad who uses our house computer rarely, went out and purchased one of these for his office.

Basically, if you have $20+tax lying around, go out and pick one up. They're amazing for gaming, and the stuff you can do with a ball instead of an entire mouse is amazing (for example, instant 180 in an FPS). The learning curve might seem difficult, but once you use it for about 3 hours, you seem to get the hang of it and start figuring out the little tricks you can do.

Although the thought of an instant 180 sounds great for something like Quake, I have yet to see a professional gamer use a trackball. If he plays HL games then he'll want to use a lower sensitivity anyway.
