I'm going to say that this is an unlikely solution, because from what it sounds like, there is actually physical trouble with the headphone jack on the MP3 player.
The first thing I'd suggest doing is trying a few other pairs of headphones, if you haven't already. It's possible that you're mistaking the source of origin for the problem. Next, carefully open your MP3 player (find a guide on the internet), and see if there is any kind of wires leading to the jack. I'm going to doubt that there are, because I've seen the inside of my iPod, and it's a circuit board, but Creative might make their MP3 players differently.
