Network Adapter Problems

I have a K8NGM2-L MicroATX from MSI for my lan box. It is installed with the latest nForce 430/410 winXP drivers. I have a lan cable that is in working condition going from the router to the computer. I can get the green light at the ethernet slot on the computer to light up to tell me its connected, but there is no orange light to tell me there is an actual connection to the internet. I'm not sure what I've missed or skipped over. And google is being no use to me. Any ideas?

Orange is activity, it will only blink when the card is doing stuff.

Well, when i open network connections under control panel i have no options other than the USB wireless I am being squeezed into using atm. I guess i probably should have included that in the original post >.<

So far i have:
run netshell.dll, regsvr32 netcfgx.dll, regsvr32 netman.dll
scanned for other plug-n-play via device manager
uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
