And for the record, I do use 3d graphics in Stepmania themes. I dont use Maya to do it though, because Stepmania only supports Milkshape Ascii.

I tend to agree that having that much storage is definately a handy thing, especially in terms of development; when you go into full fledged software development you'll need a good few gigs of both HDD space and RAM just for basics, and just about everything you create your going to keep a stern backup of between each change just in case you mess up somewhere down the line. You may know a little about one thing but as far as other fields go you need to definately study.

I've seen people run a Windows XP installation for 2 years with no problems on a 20GB HDD. And I've seen a friend fill up two 2TB partitions with music, videos, programs, and other stuff within 4 month. In personal experience, I got a 320GB HDD, formatted it, got 298GB out of it, I'm down to 102 GB free as of today. This was about 3 months ago when I got the drive. Everybody's needs are different. Saying that this guy doesn't need a terabyte of storage is like saying a mom with 6 kids doesn't need to be driving around in a minivan or SUV. Obviously he has stuff that he likes to keep on hard drives, despite their short life compared to optical media when properly kept, due to convenience of accessing it.
I am pretty sure that in Mac G5's they had actual video cards (DVI plug was sideways in an expansion slot), but I'm not sure about the Mac Pro's. I'm going to guess that they ARE cards, and not integrated onto the motherboard, since you know, the amount of space on the board that 2 video cards with memory would take up is enormous. And quite honestly, a retarded idea.
And by the way, if this guy wants to spend thousands more than he ought to on a computer, let him.
And I'm considering getting a MacBook Pro at the end of this year. I was hoping I'd be able to ask for help in this thread, but apparently it just turned into a swamp of fucking flame-fest-2006.

That computer is a piece of shit. Jesus tittyfucking christ, that is way to much money for a computer, and its not even good.
Ya you have 1GB of ram and are going to put the rest in later, *rolls eyes*. God Apple is crap...
I can understand your need for storage as I'm running two 320gb sata drives and one is nearly full. Please shut up people who don't use their computers and say "I only use 40-80GB" My Roms collection itself is over 50gb.
Now why in the hell do you need two processors? At first I thought you were going to be doing some high end video stuff, but then I looked at your video cards.
YOUR RUNNING TWO 7300GT IN SLI AND THIS COMPUTER COSTS 5000 DOLLARS???!? Holy fuck my head hurts after that. Those cards are old and crap.
Only have one disc drive, and this computer costs 5000 dollars? Hell a dvd burner and a dvd rom cost me about 100 dollars. Why is this so much money. Theres just nothing in it, but pricey processors.
God I'm never touching an apple after reading this.
I'm running
AMD 64 4000+
2 GB
Two 320GB 7200-rpm SATA
XFX's Geforce 7800GT 256mb PCI express x16
And I have a DVD Burner and DVD-ROM. I forgot what I got exactly.
This cost me a little over 1000 dollars off new egg a few months ago. I can run HL2 and F.E.A.R. with highest settings and a good framerate.
Save some money already.

Save some money already. | High end video editing doesnt require high end video cards. Also I don't think Mac uses SLi. They use something different.

And yes, this thing is going to be used for a shit load of video editing and stuff, so the processors are fine. I AM NOT GETTING A PC. I'M GETTING AN INTEL BASED MAC SO I CAN PUT PARALLELS ON IT.
PS: Phuzion, I <3 you. If you need anything or have questions, you can always PM me. I'm pretty knowledgable about computers, I just haven't been keeping up with video cards thanks to them changing every couple weeks =P

Some programs are even capible of handing off Codec decoding to certian video cards.
Also, remember, Different != Better.

I don't know much about video / 3d processing, however I know my father works with that kind of thing, and requires huge amounts of video memory. Like I said I don't know too much about it.
Really though, unless this is what earns you a living, I just see that as a complete waste of money. You might as well just tone it down and save yourself some money, then simply upgrade. The boost in power versus the cost, just isn't worth it. I buy a new computer every 1 1/2 - 2 years, and I do small upgrades between that time, boost ram, new vid card etc...

Realistically, that's only a reasonable amount to spend on a computer if you are setting up a mid to high end server that will be getting hit pretty damn hard every day.
