Default The Official Bemanistyle Greasemonkey Script Contest Thread

Hey guys, it's Phuzion (duh). I've just come up with what I believe could be a good idea. As many Firefox users are aware, there is an awesome plugin called Greasemonkey. This plugin allows users to add in small scripts that will slightly modify pages to a user's liking. For example, one script I have loaded is the "Endless vBulletin Pages Script" which allows me to simply scroll to the bottom of a vBulletin forum thread, and it automatically appends the next page at the bottom of that.

Anyways. On to the real purpose of this post. I'm planning to host an official Bemanistyle Computers & Technology Greasemonkey Script Writing Contest. Now, the rules for the contest are as follows:
  • Your code must be original
  • Your code must be released under an open-source-friendly license, if any at all (See the GNU GPL as an example)
  • Your code must be reasonably efficient
  • Your code must serve a purpose
  • Your code must not be malicious
  • No ad-removing scripts are eligible to enter the contest
These rules will be changed, added onto, possibly (but unlikely) subtracted from, and many other forms of editing within the coming weeks. This. for now, is just a heads up of what's to come with the contest.

For now, please post your ideas for script purposes in this thread. I will eventually consolidate it into one post, and that will be where I choose the final script from.

Start posting ideas.

Oh yeah. GreaseMonkey Scripts also work well with Opera. Just so you know.

  • Make a script that removes links to ImageShack pages on ImageShack-hosted images. This would be useful to those who prefer to scroll through pages using the middle mouse button and accidentally middle-click on linked images, opening a tab with the ImageShack main page.
  • Webcomic images have alt-text that is often too long for Firefox to display entirely and within the five seconds alloted for its popup. Greasemonkey scripts that overcome this problem for Wondermark and Dinosaur Comics exist, but I want to see one for xkcd and other pages in general.
  • A script that could expand the quick reply boxes in vBulletin threads would be invaluable for those who use a lot of long image tags and quotes and other such users.

a cookie to the first person to write a script that automatically resizes images wider than your browser's window to something substancially smaller than your browser's window.

Try

Forum -> Edit options ->Message Editor Interface
change to Enhanced Interface - WYSIWYG

See if that works or not

You should be able to get it working. My test account works fine with it.
