if i do copy/paste form anywhere into notepad it works, if i put kanji text in photoshop it works, if i open a txt file or a html one with kanji text it will end up with this:
if i create and write kanji into notepad all works fine even when i open that file again, instead if i open a file that is supposed to have kanji text inside (like the lr2 readme) then is the mess
it happens also with wordpad, ms word and i even tried with dos edit
edit: somehow all works now except for html files, now instead of random chracter there are a lot of like if i don't have the font, that actually i have installed because now txt files are shown fine

I wasn't even aware Notepad supported Japanese. Like, at all. It coughs and sputters garbage when I try to open a Japanese text with it. Thankfully OpenOffice has no issues with it whatsoever (although I think something had to be enabled beforehand?).
Or try AbiWord. I am almost positive Abi supports Japanese by default.
