Anyone have any info or links to benchmarks for a comparison of the class equivalent processors of intel and amd?

I have the LOWEST end Core 2 duo processor and its bad ass. even the T5500 is the premiere example of what a microprocessor should be.

T5500 isnt that a notebook processor?
I going to build a desktop
But the parts I've decided on are
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
2x EVGA 9800 gtx
Asus motherboard
4 gigs of ram

The thing is that it runs on a 45nm process so you might have to check if your motherboard supports it at all. I unfortunately got it with an Asus Maximus Formula motherboard, and it didn't support it out of the box. (even though it advertised as doing just that) I had to flash it to a newer version for the machine to POST. It wasn't too expensive, like 230 CAD or so. | |

Get one of the newer quads, but not the extreme. AMD's phenom's are still no where close to competing with intel's quads.
EDIT: oh lord... 2 9800gtx? :\ Wait a couple months. AMD is pushing for a may release of the R700 and the new word on the street is Nvidia is going to follow up with the 9900gtx/gts as early as july. Grab an 8800gts for now.

In terms of pricing though, AMD may have something that could have a good price-performance ratio (esp. with their Phenom X4 new releases)...............but then again, Intel countered that with a discount for select/current processors.
I mean, look at the Q6700 model, it's now 50% off in price (courtesy of Intel).
Makes me wonder though as to how AMD can keep up in the game.

the Core 2 doesn't really have a mobile equivalent. the processor is that efficient that knocking its teeth out doesn't make it use enough less electricity to bother doing so to put it into a laptop. Its really just a form factor + lower clockrate issue.

And since the 45nm release (under the 'Penryn' family), it really seems that Intel is really pushing well with innovation even under the mobile computer front. Heck, the innovation doesn't stop there with the release of the upcoming Centrino platform (codenamed: Montevina), mini-devices get more juice.
Makes you wonder if AMD is even doing anything to their TURION processor line.

They arent bad processors either. The intel ones are just Better.
