Default PS1/PS2 Emulator?

I've been looking around on the internet for a decent PlayStation emulator for my PC, but there are so many out there that I can't decide which is best/will work.

I've tried a few but they all require a 'PlayStation BIOS' which apparently can be easily downloaded from the internet. My only problem is I don't want to break my PC again by installing software that will corrupt my system. I have a USB joypad that is almost exactly the same as a PlayStation controller.

[System specs]
OS - Windows XP Professional
CPU - AMD Athlon 64x 2.4GHz single-core processor
Motherboard - ASUS M2V (AM2 socket)
RAM - 2x 512Mb
Graphics - nVidia GeForce 7600GS 512Mb
HDD - 200Gb

If anyone could help me choose one and/or show me how to use it, I would be most grateful.

ePSXe works wonders with a little tweaking. The only PS2 emulator I know of is PCXS2, which is still preliminary in development.

Bleem is was the one I used back in the days. I don't know if its XP compatible and if u have a fast comp, the game will run ridiculously fast.

Bleem is Commercial now IIRC, or discontinued, one of those too.

I Agree with Exy, ePSXe works THE BEST in my opinion. However, if I see one word about were to find a BIOS I will graveyard this thread and censor it. No talk about the files themselves, or which ones to use. I might even infract for speaking of pirated media.

But still, once you find everything, ePSXe is the best I've used.

Also, no talk about ISOs

PCSX2 DOES work, I tried it with GFdmV2 CS and it ran. However, on the computer I used it on was EXTREMELY slow (Less then 10 FPS) and the sound does work, however, I heard it does run some commercial games.

You don't install the BIOS. The BIOS is a .bin file, which you just place in the bios folder for whatever emulator you're using.

Also (going against TTR here but it's legal) you CAN obtain the BIOS legally by dumping it from your own Playstation, but you would need to know how to do that first.

PCXS2 does work pretty easily, especially if you have a monster system to run it with. It's really inefficient because apparently it's based off of old PS2 tech demos, or something like that. You're not going to be able to play Bemani games terribly well, but some games that aren't too heavy on graphics run decently.

EPSXE is also wonderful, and will run pretty much all PSX games perfectly.

Maybe someday we'll see just as great of a PS2 emulator before PS2's generation is discontinued.

For ePSXe, I use the following plugins for everything:
  • Video: Pete's D3D Driver 1.75
  • Audio: ePSXe SPU Core 1.5.2.
  • CD-ROM: ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2.

OK, so I got everything I needed, installed ePSXe and configured it. I tried Kurushi and it worked fine, except it was all stretched cause I have a 19" widescreen. So I tried to configure the video plugin (Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8) so that it would work in windowed mode, but it wouldn't work at all then. I tried another game in windowed mode and it worked, but extremely slowly. Maybe I'm using the wrong video plugin?

Oh, to legally dump your BIOS, you need a Gameshark and a way to connect it to your PC. I'm not agaisnt the legal dump, just illegally getting it :3

I forgot how to do it exactly though...

I would think serial cables are involved somehow.

Bleem was always commerical. It died back in, like, 2000-2001 though.

I wonder what made them think they could get away with commercial marketing.

Seriously old thread, but i have some questions about running Beatmania and Pop'n properly.

Pop'n 6 for example runs like shit. Slow, laggy, etc.

All beatmania games work great except the video for every song is glitched out like crazy, and sometimes the song speeds up for half a second. What settings should i be using?
