Default Questions regading to Xbox 360 hardware & accessories

I'm thinking of getting the Elite 360 because of the hard drive, but I don't know if this is the right thread here. It may apply to Technology, or Other Gaming. If so, go ahead and move it there. Anyways, I don't know much about the 360 wireless network adapter. Do I have to have a wifi adapter with the 360's network adapter to do Xbox Live, or can it go online alone?

Another question because I may have to plan ahead - how can the Red Ring of Death be avoided, if it is possible? And can you copy pictures, properly converted movies and music to the hard drive from USB Flash Drives? I want to put a wallpaper on the 360 interface.

I'm not quite sure what your first question is, but are you really going to spend $90 on the wireless network adapter when you can just plug in a network cable to the back of your 360 and get the same Live access for cheaper?

Avoiding the RROD? Don't leave the damn thing on when you aren't playing it, and I believe you can copy over things from a flash drive but I'm not positive.

I don't quite know what you're asking here. The 360's network adapter will pick up any wireless network, permitted that it is not 802.11n (as far as I know- they may have updated it). Also, what deathrazor said. The wireless network adapter is kind of a ripoff.

Don't treat your console like shit? I've had my Xbox for just under 2 years now, and I haven't done anything specific to prevent the RRoD. It's seen its fair share of use, so either I'm really lucky or it's not hard to keep a 360 from dying.

If you select a picture for a wallpaper from a portable storage device, it is immediately transferred over to the Xbox. As far as movies and music, just keep them on the flash drive. Now that you can install games to the HDD, you're gonna want the extra space.

Does the wireless adapter require a monthly service as well? Is that why it costs more?

Also, regards to rrod, my friend had it once, but it was serviced easily.

It costs $90 because Micro$oft likes to rip people off. Seriously, there is no point to it. The other major consoles have built-in wifi, so why can't the 360?

And no, there is no monthly fee or whatever. The only fee associated with using live is paying for however many months of access you buy at a time (well and DLC but that's a different story).

I'll check the retail stores on about network. Does Comcast PowerBoost work on 360s?

I don't use Comcast so I can't tell you, but if you're running even a 2mbps line you won't have any lag issues as long as you don't have torrents or something going on a computer at the same time.

If Powerboost is a computer program, then no, you won't get it on your 360. If it is not a program, then I see no reason why not.

...A wireless adapter with the 360's network adapter? If you're asking if it's like the Wii, no. It has an ethernet jack. Use a cat5 cable. If you're asking something else, phrase it better because I have no idea what you're asking.

Turn your shit off when you're not using it, dust occasionally, and leave it horizontal. I'll be honest, the 360 is not a well-built system. You're taking a chance with any model. With that said, newer ones are less prone to failure, and I'm running a launch box with no problems beyond a lack of hard drive space.

Yeah, you can do this, but with the NXE dash it'll look pretty crummy. For music and movies, use TVersity or Windows Media Center to stream to the system from your PC and you'll save a lot of drive space and time.

Agreed on the background pic thing. I put one on my 360, and the entire bottom half is covered by NXE dashboard bullcrap.

I found a free software a few days ago called Orb, which also runs a standard uPNP server so your PS3 can pick up on it too.

TVersity will stream to pretty much whatever you throw at it. Thanks for the heads up on Orb though, I haven't heard of it before and I'll definitely check it out

The only reason to get the 360 wireless adapter is that you have absolutely no way to get an eternet cable running direct to the 360. That's the problem I have, so I use it, and to be honest it works pretty well. That is reliant on the strength of your own home network, of course.

And if you're good with computers, you might consider saving 50 bucks, buying a WRT54G and setting it to bridge mode, this will also get your PS2, 20GB PS3, Gamecube, Original Xbox and whatever else is infront of your TV connected to your network.

Default Which ISP is good for Xbox Live?

I'm continuing this thread because I may think of the best ISP to get for Xbox Live. I know Comcast is a bit overpriced once the deal expires, so which is the most useful yet it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg?
