Clean registry, or reinstall/install Windows XP.

what are you trying to install

make sure you don't have lots of unneeded processes started up

also make sure the workstation process is started and set to automatic

Apparently InstallShield is a piece of shit.

In the middle of an installation I was doing for a random check for that piece of shit dvd drive, the installer crashed.

And, thanks to the brilliance of InstallShield, anything the fucking crashes renders any IS-based installation to never work. At all. Ever again.

So, Eureka was HALF right. Either I annoyingly make a restore point before any install or I reinstall the OS.
