Default So my laptop's motherboard crashed..

My mom said she got a call from Best Buy that our laptop's motherboard was the cause of our problem (it's been almost 3 weeks since it's been broken & 2 since we took it to Best Buy, who had to send it to the company themselves, HP). So I have a few questions. (BTW, I'm using a spare computer, if you're wondering)

1.) I know a bunch of stuff is going to be deleted & removed, but will anything saved in Documents be still on there (our old computer had to have its hard drive switched & it still had documents). If anything, I'm not happy about all my music & videos being gone & having to redownload my Zune software, the videos I had, & reconvert them (though I can finally redownload Encode 360 again).

2.) I didn't an answer as to WHY it got fried. Any ideas? It all started when the laptop wouldn't turn on. It'd just keep resetting. Somehow, we got the idea to remove the battery (we usually keep it plugged in) & a day later, it worked. It even made the volume controls at the top (for DVDs & stuff) work, which haven't worked for months. But then a few days later, it started to keep resetting again.

Sounds like it was getting too hot.

As for your stuff being saved, it depends on if they transfer the information over. Since they said it was a problem with your motherboard, the hard drive might be fine and they could just swap it in or copy the information over.

They didn't back it up since it would've cost alittle over $100. My mom is kinda regretting not having the data backed up since she had a bunch of important files on there.

I figured the hard drive should be fine, but my mom believes the motherboard held EVERYTHING.

It usually got hot, but mostly when we held it, either plugged in or battery. Perhaps we should turn it off during the night?

I think it's the general tvs and game consoles rule/belief.
"It's time to stop playing when it gets too hot."

But that would be so preposterous.

I don't have much knowledge over laptops, but the data should be fine. I really can't say much since what I know might not apply to laptops and I'm not a hardware type of computer person.

You should look into something like this: Targus*|*PA248U*–*Targus Laptop Chill Mat™

I had issues with my laptop getting quite hot and then got that and never had an issue with it locking up and I had it running 24/7.
