Tell me wether you want isolation, full sized, in ear, and what kind of music you listen to. Also, tell me whether or not you will be using a headphone amp or not. What is your source (sound card, external DAC, mp3 player, CD player, etc)?
also, if you got on to any headphone dedictated forum such as Head-Fi.org: Headphones, iPod earphones, portable audio, MP3 players, high-end audio, headphones from places like Bang & Olufson, Bose, and Skullcandy are generally regarded as bad. Although i can say that B&O are Bose headphones are too expensive for sound quality given, they do sound okay. I've only listened to one Skullcandy headphone (the one with bass amplifier) so I can't really judge them, but the general "audiophile" opinion on all their headphones is that they only focus on looks and not on sound quality.
ps dont get the bass amplifier one. the bass is absolute shit

As far as music goes, I mostly listen to indie/alt rock, IDM, and some hip-hop.
Well, would you suggest an amplifier? I'm not quite an audiophile, but then again I've never tried out an amplifier.

will you be playing games with your headphones?
I would say the Equation audio rp-21's are a pretty good choice for the music you listen to. They are fairly neutral. (meaning they don't have excessive amounts of treble or other frequencies) Amazon has them for 80 dollars.
here's a good selection to choose from. Full-Size Headphones - HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears
it's better to get some advice from people who have listened to a large amount of headphones. you can find some good advice from Head-Fi.org: Headphones, iPod earphones, portable audio, MP3 players, high-end audio
Also, buy used gear.

I enjoy that preset over most others. I'm not sure if I want neutral headphones.
I was looking at Sennheiser headphones before, and they look really nice. I'll read more into them.

I'm on my second pair (after 5-6 years I had to finally replace the first pair because the cord died) and I love them. Theyre not OMG TEH BEAST SOUNDING HEADPHONES EVAR TEH ONEES but they sound good enough for me, and a 20 dollar pair of headphones every 5 years is not that bad of a deal.
Oh and if youre replacing apple iBuds, then youre going to hear a very noticeable better quality.

Oh and if youre replacing apple iBuds, then youre going to hear a very noticeable better quality. | How about you just let someone spend their money on what they want. He clearly wants some good headphones and not merely some decent ones. Also, when people bring their budget to 200 dollars, they usually have tried some ok headphones and wondered what better sound would be like.

One reviewer said that an amp was absolutely necessary, while others didn't really agree. They're a little over my initial range, but they seem to be really good headphones.
I've been talking with raven, and it definitely seems like I should be going for neutral-sounding headphones. I'd like something kind of like the Sennheiser HD600, but more affordable.

You can't go wrong with great brands, like Sony, Koss, Shure, Bose, etc. I like my cheap Phillips pair just fine though.

I'd like something kind of like the Sennheiser HD600, but more affordable. | i have never listened to one akg can yet. I known that the k701 has a low ohm rating, but people say that it's pretty much vital to have an amp. I think the k601 is pretty close enough to the k701 that an amp should be used.
instead of the hd600, get the hd580 (about 100-140 dollars). it's much cheaper and they use the same transducers. if you want them to look similar, buy two of the hd600 grills, and put them on to the hd580. (about 100-140 dollars) also, various mods have been done to the hd580 to make them sound even better. (well it's subjective)
the 580's are very good for gaming due to the fact that they are open and are made so that classical music sounds good. (there is a large "soundstage")
get them from ebay as they sennheiser discontinued the 580's.
just to tell you, the sennheiser line of headphones don't exactly have that V spectrum you want (big bass and big treble).

My only complain is that after a hour or so, my right ear doesn't like the rubber part holding them. But audio is great, long battery life, & a special adapter for any kind of iPod or a Zune. Plus, if it doesn't fit on your TV (doesn't go deep enough), it comes with a 2 inch extender, which works great for my TV.

any koss ksc75 can beat the fuck out of any bluetooth headphone any day.
research is vital when going into an expensive hobby like audio.
the only probable decent one (haven't heard it) might be the ety 8 simply because of the fact that it's made by etymotic. Etymotic Research, Inc. - ety8â„¢ Bluetooth Wireless Earphones
