Default Is there anything wrong with any Win2k service packs?

SP4 is totally destroying my dad's PC and I had to reinstall 2k twice this morning. It cannot boot into Explorer after logging in.

The only, only thing I've installed are drivers for a wireless networking card after freshly installing Wink2k. I'm assuming the CD I'm using to install Win2k has up to SP3 slipstreamed into it.

AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz

40GB HD + 100GB HD
NVIDIA GeForce MX (2?)

That's as much as I know so far.

Found the culprit, I believe. It's the Microsoft-provided sound drivers. After I put up the wireless drivers, the next two were the graphics and sound. Graphic changes were apparent so it'd have to be the sound card.

The PC really doesn't like the sound card. After I went to get the drivers from the manufacturer's site, the first restart went without a hitch...till I made the computer bring up a dialog box that would play the "bong" error sound. After that, it freezes.

After restarting after that, the startup sound is a quarter of a second into playing and it freezes.

Is the sound card integrated or its own card?

This happened with my toshiba when it died. Theres a chance your computer is already too far gone.

The sound card is not integrated. I have a no-name I bought a couple years ago. I'll swap out for it later.

I'm not worried about the computer. It's only for internets (even though it's TOO good for just browsing).

It was an old workhorse for...Maya...3? 4.5? Can't remember the exact one but this was back around 2000-2001.
