Default Toshiba that needs help getting back up again

My brother had recently installed Windows XP Professional on his laptop, which used to be Vista Home Basic. Now the following things had happened when he did so:
  • Computer has no sound.
  • Computer can only go up to 1024x768 in contrast with the 1280x800 it originally ran on.
  • Wireless isn't detected by the newly installed Windows.

I'm trying to figure out what to do now that XP is installed on Vista technology. I'm not really sure what drivers to install and I want to try and fix this computer with little to no money cost if I can. Can someone help me on this, please?

Specifications:

Model: TOSHIBA Satellite A130-ST1313
OS: Windows XP Professional w/ Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron M Processor 520 (1.60GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB)
Chipset: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
Memory: 512MB PC4200 DDR2 SDRAM
HDD: 80GB (5400RPM)
Graphics: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M 128MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
Sound: None. (Windows Sound System prior to installation)

From what you posted, it is more than likely that you don't have all the drivers installed. Your best bet is using any drive CDs or DVDs that came with the laptop. Laptop drivers are usually pretty specific and I when I had my dell laptop, I have never found the correct drivers online or on their site. I had to call customer service to get them to send me new driver CDs. You may be able to find drivers online but I wasn't able to.

Fortunately, this is a Toshiba, and should therefore come with the restore discs, which include the drivers. Yes, you can install the drivers without restoring everything.

On a side note, I pity anyone running Vista on 512 RAM.

Also, you can try going into the hardware manager (right click the my computer icon, go to properties, go to the hardware tab) right click on whatever hardware is having an issue and go to its properties window and click the "update driver" button. I'm not sure how well it will work, though.

That's Home Basic and my brother's comp for ya.

Anyways, I officially claim that this topic be dead now, since my brother went to one of his friends to fix up the computer. In my part, I only contributed to the problem because while I thought I was installing the drivers, I actually installed Vista in the process (which is what my brother DOESN'T want).

So yeah. Request lock please.
