Default Vista: Hidden 82-byte "images"

I just unloaded a large amount of images that have NEVER been seen by my Vista laptop and there appears to be the creation of 82-byte hidden "duplicate" "images". "Duplicate" because it's inheriting the name of random images, and "images" because they're considered images.

They're all 82 bytes and appended "._" to the beginning of their name so the OS is obviously trying to hide them. What are these, thumbnails?

Are they all located in one folder or in the same places as the images it allegedly lifts their names from?

Windows stores thumbnails for all images in a folder in a hidden file named Thumbs.db so I don't think those are thumbnails. Maybe it's metadata? Open one in Notepad and copy what you find.

I usually get those on my flash drive, but every once and a while they show up on my main drive. They're nothing important as far as I can tell, I just delete them once they start building up.
