Have you tried other vista themes?

As for 'shell replacements', the only thing I know worth getting is TeraCopy but it's not a graphical skin replacement or anything more than a nice boost to your move/copy replacement for the Explorer shell.
I think that's not what you're looking for either. Oh well. :P | |

Look on DeviantART.
Here's one I found: NV2 Final by *invaderjohn on deviantART

In that case, then I agree with anti_gilbert, use Litestep.

Also, NV3 has a litestep config: NV3 litestep by *imilj on deviantART

Also, that theme is pretty sexy. If it wasn't for the fact it was so hard to find visual styles to match these LiteStep themes, I'd get it back.

Taking elements from those two, I am using Emerge Desktop and Rainmeter. It's very basic right now but after I took the following screenshot I managed to change the upper-left elements to have some color to stand out. I'd like to change the appearance of the contexual menus now. bayimg - image: desktop.jpg - free uncensored image hosting
Emerge is a little asshole-ish at first because it likes to hide and not show the Tray and Task items (upper left, in that order) until you Control-click them.
I'd at least like to get my clock to also show up over everything else but I'll make do with minimizing. Oh, and my Windows key is effectively useless now. Even better: I can't use my touch-based controls on my keyboard.
EDIT: After a little tweaking, I might get used to this sort of arrangement: bayimg - image: desktop2.jpg - free uncensored image hosting
Could probably get a system tray clock. It's badass to have the whole full screen open.
