I find it funny how I'm willing to put up with sudo but I scramble to turn off UAC the instant I start using Vista.

Because sudo isn't seemingly based on the premise that the user is computer illiterate?

Yes it is. The whole idea of having to switch to an administrator account is based around the idea that the user is a fucking moron

i really don't think the people responsible for making the different distros for linux outside of possibly ubuntu bother to consider idiot linux users since that is a fairly small group

No, they dont, the people who designed unix as a multiuser operating system and then made the correct decision to only use administrator powers when they had to, those people considered users to be idiots, and they were right, even smart people do stupid things from time to time so its best not to have the entire system lieing face up, stark naked on a pillar just in case Reenee shows up and decides to fuck that bitch.

Umm

Pardon me but.....

Forgive my ignorance but I'm not really sure as to what you guys are talking about here (esp. to what exactly you mean as to this 'admin' stuff)

P.S.
Well, I don't know if this means anything but

On both of my current computers running XP, the only account that we have is the administrator account and that's basically it (or at least that's what the computer repair guy who handled our reformatting last time said to us).

Have we done something wrong then?

Blackraven: no, you're not doing anything wrong (except that you wrote the P.S. before even saying anything!)

Dan: I'm not really sure where you're coming from here because sudo doesn't really do anything that prevents you from being an idiot (other than you have to type your password in before you do something idiotic).

Neither does UAC, the only thing it does it make you sit down and say "Wait, do I really want to do that?" which is often times, more than enough. Its a shame some people in this thread just don't fucking understand that.

The difference here is that UAC forces you to stop. sudo doesn't. Which was my original point that UAC is seemingly based off the fact that the user is a moron and sudo not so much.

The point I was trying to make is that using sudo is a lot more work than UAC. Somehow I prefer typing out a long password over clicking a big button.

well, I personally use "su" because I find myself entering more than one command as root at once, but sudo usually requires a password entry, and as such, does actually force you to stop. If you're using a Linux box without a root password, then you're the REAL moron of the hour.
