ah, if it's poor wiring that is almost certainly the problem. unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it unless you want to put down the money for a UPS

You could invest in a power-conditioner. They're less expensive than UPSes, but offer a constant stream of power, minus the battery-backup that a UPS offers.
