Because each time it happens, I move the folder, to somewhere else where the filepath isn't any shorter, and everything is fine.
...Until it happens again somewhere else. X3

The only thing I seemed to find that would work was make a new computer account, and that did work. But as for a file... That has happened to me before. Just try to re download the file (if you can, as it sounds like you are talking about a background image for a stepmania file) and see what happens, that does the trick for me sometimes.

This is still happening to me.
If my HDD is dying then it's dying a very very very very very slow death.
This time it happened with a .bmp image I believe. Which I had set to open with Photoshop. The little icon loads, but then after some seconds, Explorer crashes.
That was last night, now today the folder is fine, no crashing. I would just like to know whether or not this is a virus or something in case I should be DOING something about it.

Today I just changed the name of the folder two levels above the file(s) and now there is no crashing. I honestly don't know if this is just random, or if there is a problem. Or even if the "problem" was fixed by what I did.

That's odd that it's not crashing anymore due to a folder rename...
