Okay, so I recently found a program on my computer called WinReanimator. It makes itself out to be a good anti virus program, but being cautious I looked it up. surprise surprise! it's a virus. So I've gone through, ended the processes for it in the task manager, deleted it, and all related files, and yet, it's still causing my computer and many apps to randomly crash, and it keeps giving me a pop up bubble on the task bar saying "you're computer may be infected, click here to blah blah blah".
My question is, how do I remove this from my computer? I can't right click it on the taskbar, it does the same as a left click and runs the damned program, and search results bring up nothing. halp!

First off, did you put a real antivirus on since you got it?
Try booting in safe mode and removing it with a real antivirus.

How To Remove Winreanimator (removal Instructions)
I recommend AVG Free Edition after using this process to make sure there aren't any other viruses you missed. I also recommend looking through the Bleeping Computer forums if this is a regular problem for you. I'm not sure if this is obvious, but don't believe any program that tells you that you have a virus unless you explicitly started a legit virus scan program on your own.

oh god. My computers not letting my open up any folders, even in the start menu. I can't delete anything, and there are hundreds of .TMP files in C: and My Documents that were not there yesterday. Also the icon for C: is no longer of a hard disk, but insted a big red 'X'
let's hope this AVG thing works, or I'm completely fucked.

All I can recommend at this point is to go to another computer and generate a Preinstalled Environment disc. Preparing a PE disc is tedious, but worth every second of your time. BartPE is a good tool for this. You'll need your original (legit, non-upgrade) Windows XP install CD. Load up anti-virus and anti-spyware plugins and you'll be able to boot from this CD and perform repair and administrative operations from a portable, minimalistic Windows environment.

a) I'm assuming I will be losing most if not all of the files on my computer, amirite?
b) If you could go into a little more detail, or point me in the direction of a good tutorial on how to do this I'd be very grateful.

EDIT: Okay so I went back and followed the procedure in the first link you game me, ad it worked perfectly. This thing is gone fore good. Thanks a lot.
