Default 12 style freezing

So I have a US PS2 that I modded to have a flip top case. I then use the swap magic DVD so that I can play Happy Sky and all is well for about an hour. After an hour of playing, the game just locks up and freezes the current image to the TV screen. The laser that reads the disk is sent to the outer edge of the disk and just sticks there trying to read off of the disk ( I have clear mod case, so I can see the little red dot from the disk reader). So basically I am forced to restart the game.

Does anybody else have this sort of problem? Or maybe knows what is wrong?

Thank for any advice.

Is it only on specific songs or is this just after time?

Seems to me like what happens when the PS2 detects ejection and then tries to re-read the disc, only to find it is out of region. Check to make sure your fliptop is secured and working correctly.

I get the same problem, usually when the Song title card appears or just after it dissappears, also on DistorteD and Gold on the newest Slim 90001 US PS2.

It just happened to me again this morning. It appears that it will lock up when I'm in the middle of playing V by Taka, the sound just stops but I can keep playing till the end of the song. After the song the screen goes black and freezes.

I also will check my flip top too.

it could just be the laser going bad. i've had 2 problems with it. 1 was with a model 15000 JPS2. 9 years of gaming takes a toll on the laser, then using swap magic with a 75000 slim PS2, had the same problem, guessing the laser couldn't read the disc right. same problem with the song freezing mid song.

you can open the flip top and manually stop the disc and let it spin again, sometimes that works. but you risk damaging the motor. i suggest saving up and getting a newer JPS2 probably from the marketplace here since it's cheaper. thats what i did and everything works flawlessly.

Yeah your laser is dying.

It's gonna happen more often and eventually you're not gonna be able to read DVD's.

I never had this problem. Modding your american PS2's is never a good idea. Not only does it void the warranty, but it's not what an american system is supposed to have done to it. Try going to play-asia and buying the real-deal japanese PS2. Last time I checked, A ceramic white NTSC-J Ps2 went for 169(Model SCPH-90006CW), and thats not bad, considering it's an import. I know a lot of you are gonna say that it's not worth the money, but trust me, it is. Not only has the AC plug unit been re-designed from the standard pin design, but it loads fast. Totally worth it. And about the laser, yeah, if it's a laser problem, then either the laser's battery needs replacing, or you need to replace the PS2 all together. I went through 3 thick PS2's that had this problem. Then I bought the new skinny ones, and it's held up nicely.

Hmmm, well as far as the mod thing goes, my warranty has expired long ago plus the mod is only a flip top case ( made sure not to tear, rip, or break anything). But I didn't know/consider the laser problem and since you guys both attest to it, I might need to consider replacing my PS2.

I'll do more research on the problem at hand first or course.

Thanks for the info

Just pick up a IDE/UATA Hard drive, a ps2 network adapter and a PS1 game and run HD Loader.

This.

However, for some weird ass reason I was playing GOLD and it crashed on me, and when I restarted everything my save file was corrupted and wouldn't load, which sucked.

Yeah, for some reason though, all my IIDX songs lose sync when running off a HDD. I've tried all settings, and four different HDDs..

Same here. Either way I don't fancy importing a PS2 again if this one dies so I think I'll just stick with off-sync.

So I cleaned my laser yesterday and played for a couple of hours straight. It seemed to fix the problem. No more freezing, no more slow loading etc. My PS2 is just old and needed cleaning

When you mean losing sync, do you mean lag, or the songs themselves just sound off?
