Default 1P vs 2P

Ok, to begin with, I'm sorry for creating a related topic, but I have a slightly different question from what was posted before.

Yeah, so I'm a StepMania "vet" and recently got addicted to IIDX, and my question is between 1P and 2P. I kind of gravitated towards 2P because I've played 5-key before, but I'm right-handed. Logically, 1P is better because I could take more of the keys in my dominant hand, but then again isn't my left hand liable to screw up?

The only reason I ask is because I want to stick with one of the sides (I find that I'm not good at switching things in general). I guess my real question is: is the conventional logic to have the turntable in your non-dominant hand?

Honestly, please don't tear me apart with "wow, what a noob on his first post, learn to read" or somesuch banter. I just want to know what people usually do, so that I don't find myself switching after a long time of playing one side or the other.

Try out both until you feel you gain the advantage on one side? I learned on both 2p and 1p side until I felt that I was better at 1p, then stuck with that.

I've seen most beatmania vets translate over to 2p, so it could be more "natural" to you or something.

Ok, I guess trying both sides for a while is the easiest thing to do. I will try that.

The parallel between beatmania and 2P makes a lot of sense, but I never really got that good at bm (only a few days one summer in Japan) so I'm still kind of flexible :P

Sadly, this isnt really something where someone can just come along and say "This way is the right way, you should do it." Its basically the same deal with finger placement...its up to the preferences of the individual.

On that note, I play left side (1P), usually scratching and playing buttons 1,2 and sometimes 3 with my left hand, and the rest on my right. I am right handed; playing left side just seemed to come more naturally to me.

BTW, Welcome to the boards!

Exactly.

Nobody wants to tear you apart, but in all honesty this is an issue for which there is no right or wrong answer. The only reason you'd find yourself needing to switch sides later on is if YOU decide it's not what's most comfortable for you. This is only something that you can answer for yourself -- there are no advantages to one side or the other, and it doesn't really matter what your dominant hand is. I'm left handed and I play left side, but there are tons and tons of right-handed left side players. Same goes for right side.

So it's entirely up to your own experimentation and comfort, there's no way any of us could EVER suggest anything other than just "try and find what seems best to you."
