Default 5/6 keys and others playing one hand...

i have beat all songs on Hyper on HS except aurora one handed (right hand on keys). I having been playing one hand for years but still feel horribly unnatural hitting these combinations:

1/5/6 together
and 1/2/5/6 together.

suggestions from any other onehanders?

I must first admit that I'm nowhere near as good as you. My best bet, however, is to go thumb/pinky/ring for 1/5/6, and thumb/pointer/pinky/ring for 1/2/5/6. I admit that this fingering seems strange to me especially since I play the piano, but I doubt there's a better alternative (for 1/5/6, I guess you can go thumb/pointer/middle if your hands are big).

I use a straight ring finger for hitting 5+6 combinations with anything...it's the most unnatural feeling that probably won't ever disappear amongst us one handed players, but hey, it got me through FANTASY [A], Y31 [A], etc. once I got used to it.

The only other alternative options are:
-To mash
-Use different fingers/hand position (quick change)

^: Both are not very reliable in certain ways unless one actually devises and gets used to this.

i guess i'll just leave it to feeling unnatural.
i really dont need it to pass aurora (i just need to practice the end a lil more)

i had wondered if more one-handed players were into IIDX now and would speak up. thanks for the feedback.

i'm getting into 14 keys, so it's kind of like one handed, using one hand on each controller. i'll develop a style after some time.

i've also beaten 5-key mode for BMUS with one hand

Im a left handed one-hand player (sometimes), and that combination it way easier with the left. Here is what I would use for
1+5+6 = Thumb+Ring finger+ pinky
this one might feel akward
1+2+5+6 = Thumb+Index Finger+ Ringer Finger+pinky. you need to make that streatch 0_o

try hitting two buttons with one finger. maybe you can make a combination that you are comfortable with.

for example, you could use your pinky/ring to hit 5+6.

I use thumb, ring, middle for 1/5/6, but I do have rather large hands (I'm 6'6"). You just tilt your hand to the right slightly and it'll work. However, mashing works well in these situations too...If you just kinda slide from 6-5, then you can still keep the combo. If you're going for a AAA, this might not go over well, but I'm barely AAing most 9s and still failing most 10s, so I'm by no means an expert.

you could use the bottom of your palm to hit all whites, like in V[a].
then use the top part of your palm to hit all blues.
it's not necessary to hit the keys with fingers only.

what i do is hit key 1 with index, 5 with thumb, and 6 with ring.

my hands big enough to make small stretches, and i often crossover with my index over my thumb. if you practice enough, it makes some notehitting significantly easier.

My fingering varies depending on where I'm coming from (probably because of my piano experiences). However, I usually seem to do 1/5/6 - thumb/middle/ring or thumb/ring/pinky but 1/2/5/6 - thumb/index/pinky/ring or thumb/index/ring/middle. I find you don't have to twist your wrist around quite as much.

On very complicated passages with a lot of notes, I cut it down to a thumb for 1 and a straight index finger for 5/6. It's odd to get used to at first, but after you do it makes certain patterns (alternating 1/5/6 and 3/7 being foremost among them) much easier.

The caveat applies: I've probably never been as good at 1-handed play as you. (I can't say for sure since I don't have a copy of Happy Sky, but there are things on Red I know I can't pass on Hyper.)

If it was my fingering:

1 - thumb
2 - index
3 - middle
4 - ring
5 - little

Code:
Keys 1+5+6:

  [ ] [ ] [4]
[1] [ ] [4] [ ]

Keys 1+2+5+6:

  [2] [ ] [4]
[1] [ ] [4] [ ]
I strictly stick to this fingering for all keys:

Code:
  [2] [3] [4]
[1] [2] [4] [5]
