Once you've gotten to that level, go back and play 3s-7s or whatever feels comfortable to AAA, and don't give up after playing the song only once. Play it 7 or 8 times and work for it. Use random, so you get a different pattern every time and you can be more consistent at it.

I was terrible at timing until I had passed a few 12s myself, then I went back and worked on my timing again. Now I have over 1700 Singles AAAs and counting, so it's possible to just "get" timing. A lot of players don't have good timing skills before they start playing, because they've never played a musical instrument or sang or played another music game. Still, you see players rise to the challenge and move to the top of the ranks regardless of their musical background.
Definitely seconded. Honestly if AAAs seem like some unnattainable goal for you right now, just don't worry about them. Come back to it later and you'll know when you're ready.

Here's my idea of getting AAA's.

1. Use hard songs to build up stamina.
2. Play songs at your own level.
3. Play songs and use pace maker to keep up consistency on hard difficulty. Also try playing expert course so you wont keep exiting the song.
4. Really difficult songs can be discouraging so don't rape yourself over one song.
5. In the end its not about beating ridiculously hard songs. Its more about consistency and score.

Just keep it up really.

That's pretty much what's happening to me now. After passing about six 12's I decided to try a few easy Hypers (5-9) and to my surprise I was AAAing them pretty easily.
