With this guy I'm training right now, he always fucks with the speed mods during the songs because he worries they're going to fast. But that's minor.
Another thing is when people won't shut up about the videos that are playing. I can barely even see the videos when I play because I just don't pay attention to them at all. Sometimes a room full of a few friends completely break down because they can't shut up about LOVE IS DREAMINESS. Mind you they aren't even terribly 'normal' people. They almost all actually own bmUS but can't get past a fucking video.
However, the most annoying thing I've come across is just not trying to beat the songs. Do you know how many times I played Mei or Xepher [7k] before I beat them? Even when I was still playing level 7's I was still trying to pass level 10's when I knew I couldn't actually beat them. And I extort the hell out of training mode. DistoerteD's new 12 level training mode helped me survive the first scales in Mei and time the mid-end of era [a]. But every time I suggest this guy use training mode to beat a song he says "Nope. I'm just playing this for fun."
For the record, he's still a cool guy and is like a brother to me. Everyone plays different and whatever, but anyone else found some annoying habits your friends can't get over?

Let's see... The videos are too much of a problem with the people I help to play. But what tends to happen is most just give up. The few that are serious really do try hard... And fail everytime.
Song=BOOOOO Next song=BOOOOO Next song after that=BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O for the entire day. But I try to encourage the with things like, "Hey, you did a bit better this time." and "You got an E instead of an F which is just a bit better than before." I find that encouraging them even with the small things and telling them to ignore what the game says about their score really helps.
And I think that if a person is playing just to have fun, the game will have much more replay value than if you play to get good because you will get discouraged a lot slower than if you play to get good.
Oh, and people asking, "Do they have XXXX song on here?" I respond with "No, but I'm sure you'll find something you'll like." Usually they do. And plus some people don't really try, they just hit stuff. They don't try to listen to what's going on in the song.... and this is on 5.1.1 beginner.
I never knew DD had a 12 level training mode. I'll have to check that out.

all i had to do was help navigate the menus. the three step difficulty per "situation" helps with common key patterns that may happen. in the course of a couple months, said person was playing 6's and attempting 7's. keyword is attempting lol

Someone I know has a habit of turning the turntable back and forth for a single scratch note, but there's no point making a thread about it...
Also, none of my friends are 'annoying' while playing IIDX, but they do still talk about stuff while playing, (video etc) and I find that this is a good thing. It's better than being totally silent, concentrating on the notes blanking out your surroundings. IIDX is meant to be played for fun.

He likes to talk alot about himself and his lack of IIDX skill, but I wish he would train himself in talking less in general.
I think his name is victor or pairadicks or something.

Total Tokens: 59.14 Donate Tokens | I never had anyone train me in IIDX, and I haven't trained anyone myself, but I started with 6th Style, and I found the Drill Mode to be extremely useful. I used to be the type if I attempted a song and I was going to fail it for the first time I'd quit it, but that was when I was just starting out. I don't pay much attention to the videos either, except the Last Message one which can be a little distracting...

Dunno, thread title seems elitist. And commnuist. Not that that's a bad thing. Or two different things, for that matter.
Oh right trainers. 0% necessary. Most people learn by themselves without a condescending pro trying to keep the embers of their interest in IIDX alive.

>With this guy I'm training right now, he always fucks with the speed mods during the songs because he worries they're going to fast. But that's minor.
"Minor?" How about "what you're supposed to do". I.e., find a speed setting that YOU are comfortable with. Which, incidentally, has been the #1 factor in helping me to improve. And besdes...dude, the guy's learning. Wait until he's ready for a tournament before expecting him to be dialed in.
>Another thing is when people won't shut up about the videos that are playing. I can barely even see the videos when I play because I just don't pay attention to them at all. Aside from the option of, oh, turning off the video...dude, have you ever considered getting into these discussions and helping build their interest in this game? (Maybe eventually citing other notable videos, say, Love Love Shine's?)
Q: How many times did I play Mei or Xepher Hyper before beating them? A: Trick question, I never beat them, I know I'll never beat them, and I have at least five years more experience than anyone you're trying to foist that ultra-convenient 12 level training mode on. Look, there's something you gotta understand...some of us just aren't that good. It's not that we have no aspirations for 11's and 12's, it's that we're lucky to get a 9 on a good day and could play for the next 20 years without even cracking 20% on a 12.
>For the record, he's still a cool guy and is like a brother to me. Everyone plays different and whatever, but anyone else found some annoying habits your friends can't get over?
I don't find any of the stuff you mentioned the least bit annoying, or even anything other than perfectly ordinary.
