I have only just got into IIDX after being a 5-key player since the initial Euro release. I have 2 of these funky controllers and they work ok. I always used to play one-handed because I just assumed that was how it was supposed to be played.

When I bought an Acsii controller it took a while to get used to the key layout. I also have 2 of the Acsii ones, one bought in Japan and one that is not actually an official Acsii one but has "PSX" written instead of "Acsii" in green and is called a "Beat-Con"???

But I agree, I also have a DJ Station Pro and its a great controller, much better that the IIDX KOC in terms of sticky-keys and performance etc. And the turntable is higher too. I find that the TT on the IIDX KOC is way too low.

I never did understand why the Euro 5-key controller had the piano setup for the keys. It just isn't really Beatmania like that and it screws you over when you get used to it and then purchase a "real" controller! The DJ Station Pro keys are even further apart that the Acsii one so that was when I started playing 2-handed. But still, the arcade keys are EVEN further spaced apart so when I first played Beatmania in the arcade I felt absolutley retarded!!!

On the UK 5-key controller: have you played before? If so, you'll despise that thing. If you haven't... well, anything's decent for practice. Just expect to get thrown off a bit if you ever play on another controller (or at an arcade).

I can attest to this, trust me. Going from that thing to a bmIII machine != fun.

Ive got one of these sitting at home, they really are terrible, god knows what they were thinking when they designed it, i find the black buttons a right pain to use.

Sadly, being from the UK thats the only controller I really had access to and well its not good. One of the major problems is the awful design on the keys, they are so unresponsive its untrue. I ended up finding myself hit them very hard. Not to mention the layout, considering I had spent several years playing Beatmania with that key layout after picking up IIDX US its a nightmare trying to get used to the button spacing, however quality wise its so much better .

PS I play with the turntable on the right whilst turntable notes scroll down the left, am I weird or does anybody else play like this?

Nope, don't know him. That gif was made a long time ago about a month after I first took that picture. So he probably just found it floating around on the internet.

OH INTERNET

now that KOC's have become available easier due to BM.US , there is really no excuse is buying this thing.
yup, it's that bad (I have no problem with the tt, but the keys?? what where they thinking...)

and even if your dying to get one of these, don't let yourself get ripped off. the package game+controller is wide availabe for usually 5-15 euros.
